Look at this wild curly figure hiding inside a gigantic silver maple we took down! 🔥 Instead of straight grain, the wood fibers grew in these dramatic waves and ripples, 3D, shimmering effect you see when you split it open.
Big old trees like this one build up massive internal pressures from weight, wind, and years of growth. Combined with the tree’s own genetics, it causes the cambium (the growth layer under the bark) to lay down wavy wood cells instead of straight ones. The result? Nature’s artwork that woodworkers go crazy for… Perfect fiddleback/curly maple figure.

Forget video games… today Louie was busy turning a giant cherry log into a future mushroom farm.

A few hundred shiitake spawn dowels, a hammer, and now we’ll be sealing everything up with beeswax. If nature cooperates, this log should be producing fresh shiitakes for years to come.
