The real heat is still to come in Ontario this summer, but when it does, you can dramatically improve the comfort of your home and save on electricity bills by installing 2-3 solar powered attic fans. They use the sun's energy to cool the attic and counteract that that same energy as it overheats your attic and raises your home's temperature. Here are two really important questions that I have recently been asked...and my answers. If you have ones of you own email me at [email protected]

Q. Why would anyone want to ventilate their attic?

A. All attics should be ventilated and solar attic fans adds more ventilation during the summer months when the sun shines on the roof, making the attic hot. The hot air builds up inside your attic and eventually impacts your home making your air conditioner have to work longer to cool it. Ventilating this heat out of your attic helps you use your air conditioner less and save you money.

Q. Doesn’t my attic already have ventilation?

A. Typical attics are passively ventilated, relying on the tendency of warm air to rise to draw cooler air in the soffits while expelling hot air out the slope or ridge vents. Solar attic fans boost this process when it is needed most. That is, during the summer when the sun is shining.
