This is like the game Operation but for arborists.

Don is making the cut from the branch. Graham’s managing a break line to control the swing of the piece being removed for the targeted lowering in the yard.

Ian and Will were running the ropes on the ground to ensure a safe drop.

This is the advantage of a well trained and well coordinated team.

Took care of the branch that was torn during yesterday’s storm

Due to the sizes of the houses relative to their backyard it was a precision operation. The work has to be done quickly and safely, all while preserving the property.

The temp in Toronto was 32C which can quickly sap the energy.

This was a group effort. Ian removed the majority of the canopy. Don removed two of the three stems. Will and Graham removed the third stem and the trunk wood back to the split.

Quite the storm in today. Some reports say that it could have been a twister.

The high winds took advantage of a weakness in this Manitoba Maple and tore off this large stem. It fell across three roofs across three yards.

I stabilized it with a rope so we could come back tomorrow morning to safely remove the limb.

Searching for Spring amongst the trees in the Beach area of T.O.

Didn’t find it but I did perform an inspection of an oak. There are some faults and weaknesses that cannot be viewed from the ground.

Arborist apprentice and recent Humber Graduate, Will prepares the stem for safe removal.

Urban Forestry in the City of Toronto has a variety of challenges, top of which is the abundance of large dead trees in tight spaces.

Will is expertly navigating the removal of the branch to ensure his safety; the crew’s safety; and the preservation of the property.

What’s under your tie-in point today?

Okay, getting a little personal here, right? 😉

More storm damage clean up. Large willow tree, already in a state of decline, was hit hard by the wind and the ice. As a result, so was the shed in the neighbour’s yard.

The area is tight so no bucket access.

The cavity pictured below is under my tie-in point today.

Stay safe and may your work boots be slip resistant.

Anyone play operation as a kid?

This is how we do it arborist-style.

Very damaged tree. Extremely tight space between houses. Backyard filled with tender bulbs that are shooting up.

This is why it is important to hire a competent, knowledgeable arborist.

You want to preserve your property while maintaining the safety of the workers and bystanders.

The climb is finished now. Onto processing the wood and cleaning the yard.

Stay safe and May your ropes be ice-free!

Hello from above the roofline!

Working today to clean up the damage from fallen trees.

With the shifting weight and high potential energy loads it isn’t as simple as taking a chainsaw to fallen and split branches.

Stay safe!

Today's Tree Makeover!

Reduction pruning of a beautiful set of native black walnut trees. The limbs were over-elongated and needed to be reduced.

The trees were over 100 feet tall. The first tie in was 50 feet up.
