Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of MBQ’s new LTC - the Tsi Thonwatíhsnye’s Elder Care Home in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.[https://www.mbqltc.ca/]
Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte
As Ontario’s largest on-reserve long-term care home, this 95,000-square-foot facility will provide 128 Elders with high-quality care rooted in culture, community, and connection.
This project has been years in the making, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the home officially open and be so warmly embraced by both the community and the long-term care sector.
As Honourable Gregor Robertson , Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, noted during the ceremony:
“The opening of Tsi Thonwatíhsnye’s Elder Care Home paves a path for the expansion of quality care infrastructure and long-term care home standards. This facility will provide safety, support, dignity, and cultural connection back to those who continue to care for our communities.”
Throughout the ceremony, a common theme emerged from the speakers and conversations among attendees: this project is a powerful example of what can be achieved through partnership.
Bringing a project of this scale and significance to life required the vision, commitment, and collaboration of many levels of government and organizations working toward a shared goal - creating a home where Elders can remain connected to their families, traditions, language, and community while receiving the care they deserve.
We are grateful to have been part of the team that helped bring this vision to life:
