Overspray dries on bare plastic and flakes. Those flakes land in your next coat.

So we run Trimaco green masking paper over the drape and tape. Paper holds it. Ninety-day floor tape locks the perimeter down after running out of tape. 😫

Adds twenty minutes. Saves the whole finish.

Yesterday morning we laid down our second coat of Chemcraft water-based MDF primer before moving into the flash pearl coat we’re applying today.

We also sprayed one test door with the pearl finish yesterday, but I wanted to show you just how flat this primer lays out — even while it’s still wet — using the Sagola X4100 with a pressure pot.

Compared to an airless sprayer, when it comes to achieving this level of atomization and finish with a needle system, there’s simply no competition. This is hands down the smoothest, flattest finish I’ve been able to achieve.

Today we move into the flash pearl, followed by a 90-degree high-gloss clear topcoat, and I’ll be showing you how that lays down with this system as well.

I’m also running the system off a Bissett BC-5G Wheel compressor, rated at 6.7 CFM. It’s extremely quiet, which makes a huge difference when you’re spraying on site.

Really looking forward to continuing to dial in this setup and seeing just how far we can push these finishes.

Finally getting the Sagola pressure pot system paired up with the X 4100 Series gun and putting it to work.

Before spraying the decorative finish, I’m running some water through the system to get familiar with the setup, dial everything in, and make sure I understand exactly how I want to run it on site.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the equipment, how the pressure pot system works, and how I plan on implementing it into our workflow for high-end decorative finishes, high gloss, and specialty coatings.

This is a big step forward for the type of finishing we’re pushing toward at The Paint Saint — more control, better consistency, and a setup specifically geared toward achieving a higher level of finish.

Next up: putting it to the real test with the powder pearl decorative finish. ✨

It’s been a busy week learning, catching up, and getting familiar with some exciting new equipment.

High gloss has been a humbling process. Trying to eliminate orange peel and get Fine Paints of Europe to lay down truly flat with our airless setup showed us it was time to take the next step.

Today we applied the Chemcraft waterborne primer with our Graco GX-19 PowerShot, but tomorrow we’re getting serious with the Sagola X 4100, pressure pot and compressor setup.

We’ll be applying 423-95XX Acryllak WB Clear Topcoat with a powder pearl finish on this exciting decorative finish project.

Still blown away every time I use Fine Paints of Europe Universal Water-Based Primer.

The coverage on deep base colours is insane, and the depth they’re able to achieve with their colorants is unmatched. On top of that, this primer is extremely durable and gives you an incredible foundation for your finish coats.

If you’ve ever struggled to get coverage with deep, saturated colours, Uni-Primer is the answer.

You could realistically get away with one coat of Uni-Primer followed by one coat of Eurolux Matte or Flat if you absolutely had to. We always apply two finish coats—but it says a lot about the system that the coverage is there.

One of those products that reminds you why good materials matter. 🎨
