Pheasant Gardens

Pheasant Gardens Daylily gardens. On display and for sale. Pheasant Gardens is located just outside of Truro, Nova Scotia; in Salmon River.

We started building the Gardens in 2007 and subsequently built our new home on the property in 2010. Most of the gardens are mature now although we continually move plants around and add new gardens to the property. We would encourage anyone to drop in and enjoy the blooms anytime during the Months of July or August. Traditionally our peak bloom season runs the last week of July and the first week

of August but you should find plenty of blooms just before and just after this time frame. We would suggest you phone ahead to ensure someone is home. The garden got its name from two cock pheasants who entertained us on many occasions while we were planting. As we mentioned previously, we traveled from our home in Halifax to build and maintain the gardens before we actually moved onto the property. During this time we witnessed a lot of wildlife such as deer, foxes and pheasants on our lot (many of which still return). The pheasants were just too beautiful and entertaining we could not ignore them when it came time to creating a name. The deer on the other hand can be a hazard especially to our young shrubs and perennials. Cecil’s favorite form is doubles so you will find a large variety of doubles growing in the garden, including a section reserved for Ida Munson Award winners. Lillian on the other hand, prefers the larger bloom daylilies, and enjoys a variety of perennials, so you will witness her handiwork throughout the yard. The perennial gardens are mostly her design, with Cecil providing most of the labour to build them. Since we moved into our new home we have hosted an “Open Gardens” during our Peak Bloom. Please visit our site in the future to find out the date for this year. We usually announce the date in late June, early July, once we have established when the most blooms will be.

“Open Gardens''. You are invited to our Annual Open Gardens on the weekend of July 29th and 30th, Saturday and Sunday. Please come out between 9:00 and 3:00 to see all that is in bloom. The Daylilies will be in peak bloom at that time, and this seems to be an exceptionally good year for Daylily Blooms. In addition there are many other perennials to capture your eye and camera. You will also get a sneak peek at what we will be offering in our upcoming fall clearance sale, more details on that will be coming out in the near future. Maybe you will even want to place a pre-order. For those of you who have not been here before, we are located at 24 Deeview Cres in Salmon River, just outside Truro. Should you have any questions please contact Cecil at 902 324 1925.

The season has started. I love walking around the garden first thing in the morning to see the daylilies in bloom. I have had a couple mornings I could see them all from the kitchen but when the seedlings start blooming I get to go for a walk.

Good evening everyone, I just wanted to update you on our plan this weekend at Pheasant Gardens. Due to the current weather forecast, and the fact Monday is a holiday, we have decided to change the dates of our Open Gardens to Sunday July 31st and Monday August 1st. I will still be here on Saturday should any brave soles wish to view the gardens with an umbrella. Unfortunately we have no control over the weather, but we can use the rain. Thanks for your understanding. If you aren’t sure where we are located, we are at 24 Deerview Cres. Truro, NS - Phone 902 324 1925. I would also like to thank all of you who passed the info onto friends and perhaps you could do the same with this notice. Cecil & Lillian
