Meaningful buildings start with architects.

Before the builder, before the quote, before the first rushed decision, there is an idea.

Sometimes that idea is clear. Sometimes it is only a feeling, a problem, a property, a family need, or a question you are not sure how to ask yet. That is exactly where architecture should begin.

At Longpre Architecture, our role is to help shape that beginning with care, clarity, and backbone. We help clients understand what is possible, what is risky, what should be protected, and what needs to happen before the build starts defining the project.

Bring us your idea, before the builder.

Victoria Haus is a Vancouver fourplex shaped through Longpre Architecture’s Japavarian design language, a response to a city caught between density, real estate pressure, and the human longing for retreat.

The project draws from the familiar form of the Vancouver Special, the warmth of a Bavarian farmhouse, and the texture of English manor inspired brickwork. A strong central gable anchors the composition, while layered brick volumes create depth, privacy, and a sense of discovery.

Each home is designed with protected outdoor space, including secluded rooftop patios that extend daily life into the city while preserving a feeling of retreat.

Victoria Haus is our answer to modern Vancouver living: density without soullessness, sophistication without coldness, and beauty without performance. A place in the city with the spirit of a retreat.

French Revival meets Japavarian calm.

In Shaughnessy, Longpre Architecture was asked to solve a complex residential challenge, how to bring three generations together on one property while respecting the character of a historic neighbourhood.

Our approach began with the careful restoration of a 1936 French Revival home, refining its massing, restoring symmetry, and re establishing the clarity of its French Eclectic detailing. The result is a character house that feels confident again, with updated living spaces designed for contemporary family life.

At the rear of the property, we introduced a new Japavarian infill home, blending Japanese spatial philosophy, Scandinavian restraint, and Bavarian warmth. Organized around a recessed Japanese garden, the home creates a calm centre for daily life, with split levels, natural light, and layered views connecting the interiors to the landscape.

Together, the restored character house and new infill demonstrate what we value most, thoughtful design that respects history, responds to family needs, and creates lasting architectural value across generations.

Welcome Home.

Japavarian Haus is a custom family home in Vancouver, designed around calm, craft, warmth, and the rituals of daily life.

This house helped shape Longpre Architecture’s emerging Japavarian design language, where Japanese spatial philosophy, Scandinavian clarity, Bavarian warmth, and Vancouver living come together.

A home with soul, dignity, and quiet strength.

The machine makes housing. We make homes.

Save this if you believe homes should feel as considered as they look.

Ansoku, a vessel for the soul.

A Shaughnessy six plex designed as a quiet urban refuge, where missing middle housing feels calm, private, and deeply human.

For us, a home is not just a unit.

It is a vessel for daily life.
A place for rest.
A place for family.
A place for memory.
A place with soul.

Ansoku treats density as a small urban compound, giving each home its own sense of arrival, outdoor space, privacy, and connection to landscape.

The design draws from Japanese restraint, Bavarian farmhouse warmth, and the familiar language of the Vancouver Special, bringing together steep gables, deep overhangs, warm cladding, protected balconies, garden edges, and layered entries.

Density does not have to feel soulless.

It can have rhythm.
It can have privacy.
It can have character.
It can feel like home.
