Conceived as a cultural sanctuary blending theatre, art, education, and a dynamic public realm, Xiqu Centre is a state-of-the-art performance venue dedicated to promoting the rich heritage of Xiqu, the primary genre of indigenous Chinese musical theatre, and to the production, education and research of this ancient art form.

The path travelled throughout the complex evokes the drama unfolding within, graceful curvature and a dramatic mix of undulating patterning dancing with the soft lighting – this marks the gateway to the West Kowloon Cultural District, the city’s new quarter for arts and culture.

The Place of Mountains - Our vision for the Banff National Park Visitor Centre

Tasked with reforming the outdated visitor centre in the heart of Banff, and establishing a new gateway to the parks - this project reimagines the spaces where stories are told, where generations of locals and visitors gather to learn and celebrate this place, and where the connection with the land and its history manifests itself architecturally.

Defined by anchoring mountains, cultural footprints and vibrant ecosystems - the rivers, wildlife, and people of the Bow Valley move in continual rhythm, inspiring forms that adapt, flow, and harmonize with the land.

Envisioned as a Living Land Legacy - the project’s holistic approach to the site integrates architecture, urban design, landscape, interiors, sustainability, heritage conservation and cultural resonance into a cohesive urban language that reflects Banff’s true character and reinvigorates its inner spirit.

We respect and honour the traditional lands of the Treaty 7 Nations - the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprised of Siksika, Kainai, Piikani Nations; the Îyârhe Nakoda, consisting of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney First Nations; and Tsuut’ina - as well as the Métis Nation of Alberta, District 4, and the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc peoples.

What is the value of dreams in a profit-driven world of rational needs? Revery Architecture’s response is that the aesthetic imagination enriches our built environment not only for the individual end-user, but for the wider public. In keeping with this credo, the studio is now part of a new West Coast paradigm that reasserts the value of art at the heart of architecture.

This exhibition is generously supported by the Patterson Rozee Family Foundation

Sen̓áḵw Featured in the recent issue of : Housing in Action

"Sustainable, affordable, high-quality housing requires experts who can translate policy and regulations into built form—and who can challenge those policies when they present technical barriers to progress. We look at 10 projects that show how architects are leading the way."

The innovative suspension of the main auditorium 27-metres off the ground isolates this state-of-the-art theatre from the vibration and high ambient noise levels of the surrounding urban infrastructure and creates a vast, column-free and naturally ventilated interior plaza at the heart of the Xiqu Centre, that is open to the public 24 hours a day.

While not a part of the original project brief, this multiform space—equipped with motorized rigging and plug-and-play mobile performance elements—provides invaluable engagement with the public through exhibitions, events, and art demonstrations. Incorporating trees, optimal ventilation, and diffused natural light, the plaza offers respite from Hong Kong’s hot and humid climate through passive means, and a comfortable, inclusive ‘urban living room’ where the community can connect.
