We’re proud of the Squamish Oceanfront Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH) not only for its construction, sustainable features, and use of local BC wood, but also for the relationships and collaboration built throughout the process. From the early master planning stages to the final details, the project involved extensive research, learning, and community engagement.

We’d also like to highlight Sp’akw’us Feather Park and the amazing designed playground with located beside the project at the southern edge of the Squamish Oceanfront. Together, the park and PCPH create a welcoming gathering place for both locals and visitors. Designed in collaboration with Indigenous youth, the park features meaningful Indigenous artwork and celebrates culture, community, and connection to the landscape.

We’re excited for you to come experience it for yourself!

Take in the views from the Upper Gallery at the Squamish Oceanfront Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH) ⛰️

Designed to host a variety of events, this space pairs panoramic mountain views with warm, exposed mass timber throughout. Featuring north and south patios, floor-to-ceiling glazing, and exposed glulam purlin roof panels, the Upper Gallery brings together natural light, craftsmanship, and connection to the landscape. The perfect setting for your next event.

Before designing PCPH, we worked alongside Matthews West on the Squamish Oceanfront Master Plan, shaping the overall vision, neighbourhood identities, and long-term goals for a welcoming, sustainable waterfront community.

The plan focuses on celebrating the site’s industrial heritage, engaging with the Squamish Nation, integrating public art, and encouraging a diverse mix of uses and activities.

As the first key building within the Master Plan, the Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH) helps set that vision in motion. The project uses prefabricated mass timber to support a sustainable, community-focused waterfront while embracing cultural storytelling, Indigenous heritage, and locally sourced materials.

Happy Friday! Kick off the weekend with a visit to the House of Lager 🍻 at the Squamish Oceanfront Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH)!

While you’re there, check out the reclaimed yellow cedar shingles that wrap around the exterior. Wood is celebrated both inside and outside the building, left fully exposed wherever possible. Locally sourced, natural materials were a central idea to creating a warm, biophilic space designed to last beyond the lifetime of PCPH.

You’ll also see vertical Accoya cladding, a durable, low-carbon material we love working with that reinforces the project’s celebration of wood.

Enjoy the weekend and don’t forget to vote! Link in bio.

Our entire team is honoured to display the central House Post at the Squamish Oceanfront Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH). Carved by Squamish Nation Master Carver Xwalacktun, it reflects the building’s connection to the land and cultural heritage.

We’re grateful to have participated in the carving and to attend the pole raising ceremony, where we heard meaningful words from the Harry Family. From the SLA family, we thank you!

These moments remain unforgettable, and we hope PCPH provides a fitting home for the House Post, serving as a year-round gathering place that celebrates local culture, the Squamish community, and craftsmanship.

At SLA, we’re committed to reducing environmental impact through the use of mass timber. As a durable, resilient alternative to steel and concrete, mass timber delivers strong, cost-effective performance with significantly lower embodied carbon.

Made by bonding smaller wood elements into large structural components, it can be used for beams, columns, floor, wall, and roof panels, offering both strength and design flexibility. Because mass timber components are precisely manufactured assemblies, they provide inherent thermal benefits and can help make building envelopes more energy-efficient and airtight. This makes mass timber buildings well-suited to energy-efficient construction and the rigorous standards of Passive House and Net-Zero-ready design.

Don’t forget to vote for the Squamish Oceanfront Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH)! Link in bio

We are honoured to be a finalist in the A+ Award for the +Prefab & Modular category. With over 20 years of experience in mass timber design, we’re proud to continue advancing the potential of prefabricated design

__

From the early stages, the Squamish Oceanfront Presentation Centre & Public House (PCPH)! benefited from an integrated, collaborative approach, working closely with Kalesnikoff Mass Timber and Naikoon Contracting Ltd., our team engaged in an iterative design and pre-construction process supported by digital coordination and ongoing feedback. Naikoon’s on-site prefabrication strategy ensured exposed mass timber elements were safeguarded, allowing the superstructure to be completed in just 6 weeks.

PCPH advances mass timber as both a structural and expressive element. With 85m3 of Douglas Fir glulam and 501m3 of spruce-fir-pine (SPF) CLT harvested within 100 miles of Kalesnikoff’s factory in the Kootenays, the structure sequesters approximately 602 metric tonnes of carbon. Designed to meet BC Step Code 3, the building integrates solar panels, extensive insulation, and high-performance fenestration. This low-carbon, prefabricated approach pushes the boundaries of conventional architectural practice.
