Earlier this month, our team revisited the Vancouver International Airport ‘Mythical Island’ in the International Terminal to reflect on the journey from initial idea to final completion.

This iconic project brings coastal British Columbia indoors, transforming the International Wing at YVR with a symbolic mythical island, fluctuating tide pools, and a boardwalk connecting to a misty courtyard of rocky coastline, coniferous trees, and native plantings. The carefully crafted experience creates a transformative journey to our region’s natural character, and allowing passengers to connect with nature.

Completed in 2021, this design project continues to remind us of the value of creativity, collaboration, and the beauty of the natural environment - a source of inspiration for all who pass through.

Connect is proud to share photos from our recent visit to the Tikwalus Interpretive Hub — a welcoming space for rest, reflection, and recreation. Created in collaboration with Spuzzum First Nation, and Panther Group, this project celebrates culture, community, and connection in the heart of the Fraser Canyon.

We’re excited to share our work on the Steveston Community Park Playground, which officially opened with a ribbon-cutting celebration this past Tuesday!

CLA was proud to help lead the re-design of this beloved community space, bringing it to life with playful ocean-inspired elements, including lighthouse, salmon, and boat-themed play structures that reflect Steveston’s rich coastal heritage.

Accessibility was a key focus throughout the design process, ensuring this playground welcomes children of all abilities to explore, play, and connect.

Last week, the Connect Landscape Architecture team celebrated our Summer 2025 Social with a day of team-building, plants, and sunshine!

We began the morning at the UBC Botanical Garden with Douglas Justice, exploring planting design and deepening our horticultural knowledge. The day continued with a team lunch and some well-earned downtime at Jericho Beach. As expected, the day was a blast!

We are excited to see construction progress being made on the installation of a Permavoid Blue-Green Roof at the West 4th Lark commercial project.

The Blue-Green roof will retain and reuse thousands of litres of storm water for passive irrigation (71.31m3, to be exact)!

Benefits:
- Increases thermal insulation in winter
- increased biodiversity
- Mitigates urban heat island
- Aids City’s drainage infrastructure
- Full system provides over 4 weeks of passive irrigation to Green roof during summer droughts
- Can handle storms up to 10-year storm event (based on projected storm levels at the year 2100)

We are looking forward to getting back on site to see this Blue-Green Roof’s growth!

A site visit to check in on the almost-complete 30-storey AAA office tower in Downtown Vancouver at the corner of Granville & Cordova. The design takes advantage of it’s spectacular setting, adjacent to the Waterfront station, with exceptional access to public transit, bike lanes, premium retail, and restaurants.

The roof top amenity deck features social lounge and meeting spaces with custom semicircular fireplace, custom seating with curvy limestone planters, and an intensive and extensive planting. There are stunning views of city cape, Burrard inlet, and North Shore. Dynamic ground level public art by was inspired by water, waves and reflectiveness and will anchor the wavy and curvy building to the public realm.

The building is targeting LEED Gold.

Last year, restoration of the Seal Cove Waterfront Park was completed. We were stoked to have worked on this project alongside .tranmer and the Coast Tsimshian Northern Alliance.

The community-based design transforms this underused waterfront setting into a community destination experience connecting the Rushbrook Trail and waterfront greenway.

This project exemplifies habitat restoration and biodiversity, shoreline resilience and responding to sea level rise. At the community level this is a great place to recreate, enjoy, and rejuvenate.
