Do you know where your clean-out is?

A clean-out is a point of easy access into a drain for when it needs to be cleaned.

If your main sewer is clogged and your not sure if you have a clean out don’t just tell your plumber that you don’t, find out for sure. Otherwise he will need to lift a toilet which will cost you more money & take up more time.

Clean-outs are all over the place and could be attached to any drain pipe not only a main sewer.

Clogged toilet? Here’s the correct way to use a plunger.

More than a few times i’ve shown up to someone’s house who told me they tried to plunge their toilet and it didn’t work. This is because they didn’t use the proper technique!

Step 1. Put the plunger into the water and push down gently to squish the rubber chamber down and release the hair from inside

Step 2. Release the downwards pressure for the rubber to expand again and suck the water up into itself filling the rubber chamber.

Step 3. Place the mouth of the plunger firmly down onto the toilet drain so that it’s sealed and push down firmly to plunge the toilet.

When done correctly, 1-2 plunges is all it should take but you can try up to 5 times before confirming that it’s not an issue you can resolve with a plunger.

Make sure to push straight down so as to not shift your toilets position!

Slow draining tub? Here’s the fix.

It seems obvious, but the solution is very often overlooked!

Step 1. Tools
- multi bit screwdriver
- Long nose pliers
- Nitrile gloves

Step 2. Remove the drain cap
It’s either a twist off or you’ll need your multi bit screw driver.
Pro tip: remember the order you took it apart in, that way when you go to put it back together you just simply follow the steps in reverse.

Step 3. Remove the hair
If hair stuck on your drain cap is causing your slow draining or clogged tub, you’ll know right away when you remove the drain cap.

If you don’t see any hair there, then you know it’s an issue you need a drain tech or plumber for.

Step 4. Put the drain cap back on and run some water!

If you have hair in your drain cap you could also have it further down the drain so removing from just the entrance point is not a long term solution.

You may remove hair from the drain entrance and the water still drains slow. Call a professional immediately.

Another thing to try would be removing the overflow cap and using a hand auger down into the p trap.

A gurgling sink or any other plumbing fixture is a warning sign of an approaching backup.
