Building Generator Self Start Issue Resolved
We recently attended a service call for a building generator that was not working on self start mode. The generator was failing to start automatically because the battery was not charging properly. Due to the low battery charge, the system detected a fault and activated the safety lock, which stopped the generator from operating. When a generator battery does not receive proper charging, it can trigger protection errors designed to prevent damage. In this case, the safety system did exactly what it was designed to do, but it left the building without a reliable backup power solution. We inspected the charging system, identified the cause of the low battery charge, and corrected the issue. After restoring proper charging, we cleared the error and safely released the safety lock. Once the reset was completed, the generator returned to normal operation and self start functionality was fully restored. After testing, the generator responded correctly and started automatically as intended. The building management was satisfied to have their backup power system working reliably again. So If your generator is showing errors, not charging properly, or failing to start automatically, timely inspection and correction can prevent bigger issues and unnecessary downtime.
