MTO Releases New Edition of OTM Book 7
Dear ORBA Member,


New Edition of OTM Book 7 is Now Available

The Ministry of Transportation has released the new edition of Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7: Temporary Conditions. Throughout the process, ORBA has been involved in the consultation for the updated manual. The new version features a new appearance, new layouts including roundabouts, HOV lanes, and pedestrian and cycling facilities, updated information on the use of Automated Flagger Assistance Devices, and the implementation of longer tapers for temporary work zones.

ORBA has contacted MTO to discuss any implications for current contracts and will provide an update as information becomes available .

Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) Begins Enforcement Blitz

Throughout the months of May and June, MLTSD will begin the first of four planned education and enforcement blitzes for 2022. The goal of the campaign is to expand outreach and raise awareness of the health and safety hazards associated with motor vehicles and mobile equipment. Struck-by-incidents (involving vehicles and mobile equipment) continue to be among the most common causes of lost-time injuries.

On Track Safety is looking for Traffic Control Technicians with freeway experience, who are also able to carry out municipal closures. Must demonstrate the proper knowledge to carry some or all of the following:

- Lane Closures (left & right) - Municipal and Freeway
- Working near Traffic Lights
- Diversions
- Detours
- Flagging Operations
- Ramp Closures
- Mergers, Exit Lanes and Transfers
- Crash Trucks

This is a unionised position. Registration with LiUNA Local 183 is required. LiUNA Members are welcomed to apply.

A class G Driver's License is a must.

Ontario issues new "Stay at Home" initiative to help curb rapidly filling hospital beds. Effective 12:01 AM. Thursday January 14, 2021 non-essential construction is to cease. Essential Infrastructure, electrical and utilities are deemed essential.
Grocery stores, Convenience stores and Gas stations will maintain under normal hours of operation with all others closing by 8 pm.

On Track Safety will continue with new safety protocols to protect our workers who will be assigned individual trucks to maintain social distancing while working. Masks are to be worn during their shifts when outside their vehicles.
