How loud is a heat pump, really?

It’s one of the most common questions we get—especially when the outdoor unit is going near a patio, bedroom window, or neighbour’s property.

Rather than just quoting a decibel rating, we figured we’d show you. This video was taken beside a newly installed heat pump while it was running, so you can get a real-world idea of what to expect.

Modern heat pumps are generally pretty quiet, but they’re not silent. Equipment selection, location, and a proper installation all make a difference.

Hot commercial spaces? We do that. ❄️☀️

We recently completed this two-zone ductless heat pump installation at a clinic in Fairfield, where indoor temperatures were regularly climbing above 25°C on warm days.

The result? Comfortable temperatures for both staff and clients, year-round. During commissioning, we lowered the main storefront from 23.5°C to 18°C in about an hour, with plenty of capacity to spare.

🔥 This is our kind of job.

Out with the old oil furnace and in with a new Moovair cold-climate heat pump.

These are some of our favourite projects because the upgrade goes well beyond simply replacing an old heating system.

Five years ago today.

The thermometer says it all: 46.8°C.

This photo was taken on the roof of the movie theatres in Langford during the 2021 heat dome. Three of the five rooftop units were struggling to keep up as people packed into the theatres looking for relief from the record-breaking temperatures outside.

Those few days changed the way many of us think about air conditioning. What was once considered a luxury quickly became an essential part of keeping homes, businesses, and public spaces safe and comfortable.

As HVAC technicians, days like that remind us that our work is about more than equipment. It’s about helping people find comfort when they need it most.

Looking back five years later, one thing is clear: extreme heat events aren’t as rare as they once seemed. Whether it’s maintaining commercial systems or helping homeowners prepare with efficient heat pumps, resilience has become a much bigger part of what we do.
