When a patient walks into a dental clinic, the lighting is doing more work than most people realize. It has to calm nerves in the waiting room and deliver precise, high-performance illumination in the back where the clinical team is working. Over the past couple of years, we've had the chance to design and install lighting for four dental clinics across Victoria, and each one solves that balance a little differently.

At AUSCA Dental, the centerpiece is a backlit oak tree feature wall, a wood slat installation that brings a natural, calming element into the space the moment patients walk in. Campus Dental leans into a more vibrant, modern look with curved architectural LED strips framing reception and playful neon signage up front. Royal Bay Dental, designed in partnership with Skyline Contracting, was built around warmth where it needs to feel calming and precision where clinical accuracy matters. And at Moss Street Dental, a dramatic backlit stone-look reception desk makes the first impression before a single word is exchanged.

A look inside the Folk townhouse project, where Four Peaks Power handled the electrical work, including the dining room lighting.

The dining areas show how much the right lighting can contribute to a finished space. From the modern globe fixture over the round table to the linear pendant over the larger dining area, each fixture complements the layout while providing practical lighting where it’s needed.

New clinic, same commitment to doing it right the first time. Our crew has been up in the ceiling at the new Paw Lick Veterinary building here in Victoria, running conduit, setting junction boxes, and getting the rough-in wiring squared away before the ceiling tiles go back in.

It is easy to overlook the work that happens above the drop ceiling, but this is where the whole electrical system starts. Every box gets labeled, every run gets planned, and every connection gets checked, because once those tiles are back up, this is the last time anyone sees it clean. A vet clinic runs demanding equipment all day long, from exam room lighting to diagnostic tools, so the rough-in stage is where we make sure the system can handle it for years to come.

Our crew recently completed electrical work on rooftop HVAC units at the new Paw Lick Veterinary building here in Victoria. If you're planning an EV charger or a heat pump this year, you're not alone. Both are becoming standard upgrades for homes across Victoria, and both come with rebates that make them more appealing than ever. But there's a step a lot of homeowners miss before booking either install: checking whether the electrical panel can actually support the added load.

A Level 2 EV charger alone can draw 40 to 60 amps. Add a heat pump on top of that, and a panel that was already sized for a smaller, older home can get pushed past what it's built to handle. This is especially common in Victoria homes still running on 60 or 100-amp service from decades ago.

The fix is usually simpler and cheaper when it's done before the new equipment goes in, rather than after an installer shows up and realizes the panel can't handle it.

Most electrical work gets hidden behind drywall. This part gets hidden behind concrete.

On this build at The Woodlands in Ten Mile Point, our crew roughed in conduit and junction boxes directly into the retaining walls before the pour, positioning everything for garden lighting the homeowners will add down the road. Once that concrete sets, there's no going back to add or move a run. It has to be right the first time, planned around a design that doesn't even exist yet.

That's the part of the job most people never think about: building in the flexibility for what a homeowner wants later, years before they ask for it.

Some of the best electrical work is the kind nobody notices until years later, when the garden is in and the lights just work.

At The Woodlands, an estate lot development in Ten Mile Point, we're roughing in the electrical infrastructure for future garden and landscape lighting well ahead of any planting. That means setting junction boxes and conduit directly into the poured concrete retaining walls while they're being formed, so there's no need to cut into finished concrete or dig up new landscaping later to add power for lighting.

It's a step that's easy to overlook, but it makes a real difference for homeowners down the line. When the retaining walls are ready for wiring before they're even backfilled, garden lighting becomes a simple add-on instead of a disruptive retrofit.

Lighting is one of those details that quietly makes or breaks a kitchen, and it's something we think about carefully on every project.

For the Folk townhomes in Saanich, we installed adjustable black track lighting that runs the length of the kitchen ceiling, giving each unit the flexibility to direct light exactly where it's needed most, whether that's over the sink, the range, or the open shelving. Paired with the warm wood tones and sage green cabinetry, the fixtures add a clean, modern touch without overpowering the space.

It's a small piece of a much bigger project, but it's the kind of detail that homeowners notice every single day.
