When we talk about our tilt-up concrete panels, we’re talking about the Monolith System.

They’re one and the same.

The Monolith System is our proprietary building method that uses structural insulated concrete panels (SCIPs). We manufacture and pour each panel horizontally—often right on site—and then use a crane to tilt them into place, which is where the term “tilt-up” comes from.

So when you hear us say:
✓ Monolith System
✓ Monolith wall panels
✓ Monolith sandwich panels
✓ Tilt-up concrete panels
✓ Structural concrete insulated panels (SCIPs)
..we’re talking about the same building system.

A little behind the scenes from Salt Spring Island 🏗️

Our dream team is making great progress on our latest custom home build, with our Structural Concrete Insulated Panels (SCIPs) coming together one wall at a time.

In these photos, you can see one of our panels being lifted into position by crane. Once in place, the panels are temporarily secured with steel L-brackets while the crew carefully checks alignment and positioning.

From there, the panels are permanently welded and connected, creating structural concrete shell of the home.

It’s a pretty incredible process to watch—and even better to see it come together.

There comes a moment in every custom build when everything starts to feel real.

Watching the walls go up is one of those moments.

We’re thrilled to see this Salt Spring Island home coming to life. For many homeowners, it’s the first time they truly experience their future home. What was once lines on paper suddenly becomes something tangible, spaces you can walk through, windows that frame the views, and a home that begins to tell its story.

Whenever possible, we build our Monolith wall panels right on site.

We bring our precision casting tables directly to the project, where each panel is cast on a perfectly laser-levelled surface. By building on site, we reduce transportation, lifting, and handling—minimizing potential damage while maintaining greater quality control from casting and tilt-up through to final installation.

The foundation is the socks and shoes of your home. 🏠

You wouldn’t walk through winter barefoot, so why build a home that loses heat through the ground?

Approximately 3️⃣0️⃣% of a home’s building envelope is its slab and foundation. While many people assume heat only rises, heat actually moves in all directions—from warm to cold—and follows the path of least resistance.

The ground beneath your home sits at roughly 10°C, while your living space is typically maintained around 21°C. Without a thermal break (insulation) between the foundation and the earth, your home continuously loses heat to the ground.

That’s why we insulate beneath our footings. By creating a thermal break at the foundation and under the floor slab, we improve comfort, reduce heat loss, and create a healthier, better-performing home from day one.

The best time to get it right is before the concrete is poured. Once a foundation is in place, there’s no going back. It is a missed opportunity. That’s why we believe home performance starts at the foundation.

Did you know?

Using custom form liners and formwork, concrete can permanently capture texture, patterns, graphics, and architectural detail.

From board-formed finishes to custom graphic panels, every surface can be intentionally designed before the concrete is even poured. The result is permanent, low maintenance architectural detailing built directly into the structure itself.

Image 1 — At our Beach Drive home, a life-size Garry Oak tree photograph was impressed into the concrete, creating a feature that is both structural and artistic.

Image 2 — At our Wain Road project, wood formwork was used to imprint the natural grain and texture of the boards directly into the concrete, combining the warmth of wood with the permanence of concrete.

Images 3+ — Additional examples showcase the incredible versatility of architectural concrete. From textures and patterns to custom graphics and finishes, the design possibilities are nearly endless.
