2026
Warm and dry weather is returning to much of the province this weekend, drying out forest fuels and increasing fire danger. Despite rain received across much of B.C. over the past week, some areas remain drier than normal. The Northeast and the central and southern Interior are at the highest risk of new wildfire starts and increased fire behaviour as the weather warms.

With the change in weather we may begin to see holdover fires, lightning-caused fires where heat smoulders undetected until hotter, drier and windier conditions lead to more visible smoke. Human-caused wildfires are also a concern and are preventable. We encourage people to recreate safely, follow all local or provincial fire restrictions and prohibitions and exercise safe campfire practices.
