Herringbone tile design- what a pain in the a$$!
But it’s what separates expert competence from average ability.
A few details: the size and position of the tile field is designed with no little bitty triangles, starting with full tiles above the firebox.
This firebox does not have a separate black metal surround that covers the edge of the tile - tile butts against the side with cuts visible.
Grout will not stick to a firebox (thermal expansion of metal) so to separate them with a tiny gap there is a frame of Schluter trim metal around it. I taped it off really tightly to keep grout out of the 1/8” gap around the firebox.
The continuation of the pattern on the little 1” strip underneath was especially tedious…
Just cutting and setting the white face tile was a 10 hour day!
