CHATHAM-KENT, ONTARIO (September 12, 2023) – Twelve local cultural icons will form the 2023 class of inductees to the Chatham-Kent Arts and Culture “Heroes Wall of Fame”, sponsored by Waste Connections Canada and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Forward Together grant program.

The Heroes Wall of Fame, launched last year and housed at the Chatham Cultural Centre, is a program of the Chatham Kent Arts & Culture Network (CKACN), a community arts council incorporated in January 2021 to support the arts and cultural sector of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Annual inductions will take place under six categories: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Music, Dance, Literary Arts and Cultural Builders.

The 2023 Class of Inductees are:

Visual Arts
• Alexander M. Fleming – Painter (Chatham)
• Larry Towell – Photographer and Photojournalist (Wallaceburg)

Performing Arts
• Ron Pardo – Comic-Impressionist and Voice Actor (Pardoville)
• David Farquhar – Audio Producer and Entrepreneur (Chatham)

Music
• Michelle Wright – Singer and Songwriter (Merlin)
• Chatham Concert Band – Orchestra (Chatham-Kent)

Dance
• Lisa Lester – Dancer, Choreographer and Cultural Entrepreneur (Chatham)
• Eelünaapéewi Lahkéewiit Pow-Wow – Indigenous Dance (Delaware on the Thames First Nation at Moraviantown)

Literary Arts
• Archibald Lampman – Poet (Morpeth)
• Lori Lansens – Author and Screenwriter (Chatham)

Cultural Builders
• John Beardall – Broadcaster and Entrepreneur (Chatham)
• Kiwanis Music Festival – Youth Music Development (Chatham-Kent)

Efforts were made to represent various communities around the municipality, as well as honor both legacy and more contemporary choices. Inductees will have a plaque permanently mounted at the Chatham Cultural Centre, inclusion on the ”virtual wall” on the CKACN website, and recognition at an Induction Ceremony at the Chatham Armoury (44 William St. N.) on October 11 at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00. The public is welcome but must RSVP in advance to [email protected].

The Heroes Wall of Fame oversight committee included James Snyder (committee chair), Christie Coatsworth, George Sims, Art Stirling and Dan White (board chair).

We have not been spending much time on social media lately, we have our own priorities, and these little ones came into our lives recently and needed some of our time and resources. All is purrfect! After spending long days in the shop it is wonderful to have some time to slow down and have these young ones remind us of what is indeed important. We have actually turned one of our models in progress into a temporary Indoor Kitten Playground. (Yes we know we are crazy!) When the kittens are rehomed and the waters and outdoor work slows down as summer transforms to autumn, and autumn transforms to winter, you may see more postings here...

Tiny Home Show this weekend in Ancaster, just off of the 403.

This isn’t your typical home show. It’s a lifestyle. Walk through a tiny home and imagine what it would be like to live in one. We believe that tiny homes are a big part of the future of affordable housing and intentional, sustainable living. Many Canadians do, too! Just look at how fast the tin...

We are fortunate that last night's storm in Wallaceburg ended in Rainbows for us - not everyone was as lucky - quite a bit of damage here. We did lose bimini tops on two boats, lots of Tree limbs are down, so much water was EVERYWHERE! This is ongoing Research & Development for us as we have always kept current and future extreme weather events in mind with our builds. Still standing without damage are our Micro Blue, Floatio, Lotus and Dome Frame, that were all outside in the path of the storm (we watched from inside behind the big doors, and at one point backed away from the doors and deeper into the building as we did not feel safe by the doors). Another type of build a few blocks away did not fare so well.

Eagle Love

Later that day, Keeper Kerstin saw Murphy sitting on the rock as if it were an egg, and he continued to do so day after day. Male bald eagles take an equal part in raising young, so this is very natural behavior for a male. "Every so often he rearranges the sticks in his nest, and cackles at any oth...
