It was a night to remember!

On July 13th, we were honoured to accept the Built Environment Award at the 2024 Land Awards Gala, alongside our co-nominee Squamish Nation.

The land awards, presented every two years by the Real Estate Foundation of BC, celebrate organizations who are making a difference in socially just, sustainable land use.

Our fellow nominees were an impressive bunch, and we were inspired by their projects, partnerships, and dedication. We were uplifted by their innovation and motivated by their commitment to our collective future.

Congratulations to the winners in other categories. A full list of nominees and winners and their projects can be found at http://www.landawards.com

Thanks to the Real Estate Foundation for your work in promoting and supporting these vital projects. Together we can build a thriving, equitable society!

We are very honoured to announce that our Estítkw Place project has received the Homebuilders Association Vancouver - HAVAN Award for Excellence in Building Products and Technology!

NUQO manufactured this 55-unit building in 12 weeks. Our NUQO team assembled it in 5 days onsite, and occupancy was achieved within a 12-month timeframe. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and the foundational role our modular product and technology served on this project.

Estítkw Place is part of the Squamish Nation visionary initiative to 'Bring Squamish Home.' This building will provide high-quality, culturally safe, culturally proud housing to members of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation.

This recognition celebrates the collaborative efforts with Hiy̓ám̓ Housing, Dialog Design, Lu’Ma Development, and Kindred Construction to bring this much-needed affordable housing development to life. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to have been part of this project.

Today, on Red Dress Day, we stand in solemn recognition of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people. This day calls us to advocate for justice and change.

At NUQO, we reaffirm our commitment to seeking justice for Indigenous women and extend our deepest respect and sympathy to those families and communities who are mourning the loss of their beloved mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, and matriarchs: many of whom are still waiting for answers and closure from the systems that failed to protect their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with you.

It was an incredibly special day last Tuesday as we joined Hiy̓ám̓ Housing and many honoured guests, friends, and beloved tenants at Estítkw Place in North Vancouver for a ceremony celebrating the building’s grand opening.

NUQO was honoured to host a ‘Proudly Indigenous’ photo “booth” where tenants and attendees were able to get professional portraits taken. A huge thank you to our longtime friend Wendy D Photography for lending her talents!

Offering safe and secure housing to members of Sḵwxwú7mesh Squamish Nation, the 55-unit, nearly 30,000 sq.ft. development provides a supportive community that honours cultural safety and decolonized care. We are so thankful and privileged to be helping to Bring Squamish People Home in this beloved community and would like to thank every person and organization who helped bring it to life.

This morning, NUQO’s CEO Rory Richards presented at the Architectural Institute of B.C. (AIBC) Conference in Vancouver. This year’s conference theme is “Act”, encompassing the important role of architects in the built environment: from designing and building with purpose and creativity, to addressing social, economic, and climate challenges.

At her session, titled “Blueprints of Belonging”, Rory discussed how NUQO is helping to bridge culture and innovation in Indigenous modular housing while discussing a few of our latest projects: buildings that blend sustainable building methods, thoughtful design, and a deep commitment to community enrichment.

Thank you to those who attended, and congratulations to AIBC on a successful conference!

ICYMI: NUQO and Natural Pod are uniting to fill the urgent need for accessible, quality child care and learning spaces.

Together, we're addressing a critical issue that resonates deeply with many families — in 2023, 58.8% of families using child care in B.C. reported difficulty finding spaces. Our collaboration is poised to create more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable learning environments, directly responding to this pressing need.

Canada is embarking on a groundbreaking journey to tackle the housing crisis. Last week, the Prime Minister announced a $600 million plan that aims to transform homebuilding with a focus on speed and affordability.

Part of this initiative is a $50 million Homebuilding Technology and Innovation Fund, designed to fuel advancements in modular housing and other innovative construction methodologies. This fund will leverage low-cost financing to foster the use of prefab and modular technologies, marking a shift towards simplifying and reducing the cost of home construction in Canada.

We applaud this announcement, which marks a significant leap towards making affordable housing a reality for Canadians, while showcasing a commitment to sustainability and efficiency.
