A log over two feet across. Seven batteries. A proper workout for the DEWALT CANADA🇨🇦 60V FLEXVOLT chainsaw.

Getting firewood ready for the house and putting the battery saw through more than a few cleanup cuts.

First, the Kubota Canada skid steer handles the heavy moving. Then I mark the log at 14-inch intervals—the length that fits our fireplace best—and start cutting it into rounds.

Seven batteries to get through the whole log is a lot of battery changes, but there was plenty of wood to cut. I was impressed with how well the saw handled it, including the thickest section at over two feet across.

Then it’s over to the gas-powered splitter. A little first-person footage, a time lapse, and a satisfying pile of split firewood to finish the day.

Made good progress, but there’s more waiting for me tomorrow. Working toward enough bush cords to keep the house warm through winter.

Would you run a battery chainsaw for this much cutting, or are you sticking with gas?

His race season stopped three months ago. Last night, he got to be back to watching what he loves to do

Colton got out of the hospital the day before, and last night we headed to Crayden Dillon place for nighttime pit bike races.

Track lit up, bonfires going, tons of people, and racing all around us. But the best part was seeing Colton reconnect with friends he hasn’t seen in a while since his accident brought his motocross season to a sudden stop.

We were there to watch, hang out, and take it all in. Seeing him that excited to be around his friends and the sport he loves meant a lot to me.

A huge thank-you to Crayden for putting on the event and bringing everyone together. You gave us a night we really needed.

Sometimes a night at the track means a whole lot more than racing.

Yes, that’s hairspray—and it’s here to help protect our layout line.

On this condo remodel, I’m spraying over a chalk line on the concrete floor to help keep it from rubbing away as the renovation moves along.

We’ve already established our layout and checked it for square. Preserving that line gives us a consistent reference to measure from throughout the project, instead of repeatedly working off existing walls that may not be straight.

It also gives the flooring crew a useful starting reference when they arrive, so they can check their layout against ours before installation.

The hairspray doesn’t make the line accurate—the layout work does. It just helps keep that work visible.

Small trick. Useful reference. One less thing to keep redoing.

Have you tried this, or do you have another way to preserve your chalk lines?

Sometimes the smallest detail takes the longest to figure out.

At our indoor pool project, the concrete footing comes tight to the door frame, leaving barely any room to insulate and finish that little section properly.

The interior knee wall is framed and spray foamed, but this tight spot needs its own solution. I’m working through how to fit ½–¾-inch polystyrene into that gap while leaving a clean finish for the Trusscore panels.

With cold Ontario winters outside and a warm, humid pool room inside, I want to address that potential cold spot before covering it up. The finished detail has to do more than look good.

And before anyone judges the canned foam all over the door and jamb… that was the homeowners’ contribution. Had to give them a little grief for that one.

What would you do here? How would you insulate that tight section and finish it cleanly?

This is one of my favourite things about having an epoxy garage floor—how easily it cleans up.

Giving the garage a refresh with the pressure washer and watching all that dirt wash away. A finished floor makes such a difference when you’re trying to keep a space you actually use looking good.

Beyond the look, an epoxy coating helps protect the concrete underneath and gives you a surface that’s easier to sweep, wipe down, and maintain. Dirt, muddy footprints, and everyday garage mess are a lot easier to stay on top of.

Big shout-out to Garage Systems for coming out and helping me get this floor completed. Still loving how it brings the whole garage together.

Would you coat your garage floor?

A clean edge finishes the job.

StratosFied Concrete working the edging tool along the sidewalk on our heated driveway project after laying down the broom finish.

Simple tool, practiced hands, and attention to detail. This is the work you see every time you walk up to the house.

The panels click together nicely. Getting them around the deck takes a little more work.

I’m notching a Trusscore PVC panel around the pressure-treated deck leading into the house.

You’re getting my view through the Meta glasses, from marking it out on the cutting table, to making the cuts with the Metabo HPT Canada rear-handle saw, to fitting the panel into place.

The snap-in J-trim goes on once the panels are finished. Still more to do, but the room is coming together one piece at a time.

Would you rather see these installs from my point of view or from a camera set up beside the work?
