ANSWER: If you guessed PLUMBERS, you are correct!!

Tidbit #1:
The New York Sewers: Before they were heroes of fantastical realms, the brothers got their start working in the underground sewer systems of New York City in the 1983 arcade game Mario Bros. Their job was to clear out pests like giant turtles, side-steppers, and slipice coming up through the drainage pipes.

Tidbit #2:
The Golden Wrench: In their early appearances, their profession was the primary justification for their abilities. Their overalls, boots, and caps were standard work attire, and their navigation of green warp pipes cemented the visual link between plumbing fixtures and magical travel.

Tidbit #3:
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (1989): In this live-action and animated television series, Mario and Luigi ran a Brooklyn-based plumbing business called "Mario Brothers Plumbing." The live-action segments frequently featured guest stars and centered around fixing everyday plumbing emergencies—from clogged sinks to broken radiators.

Let’s be honest: no one wants to have to call a plumber.

Whether you’re worried about the cost or just think it would be faster to handle everything yourself, it’s no surprise that many homeowners still turn to DIY plumbing hacks when faced with a plumbing problem. https://fowlerplumbing.ca/examples-of-reasons-why-you-should-reconsider-diy-plumbing/

Unfortunately, those well-meaning attempts tend to backfire.

We get calls from homeowners who need our help after their own plumbing fixes fail, and most of them would have saved money just calling us first.

ANSWER: Did you know ancient Romans used LEAD for their water pipes?

Here is a bit more background on how and why the Ancient Romans used lead for their water systems:

Etymology: The word "plumbing" comes directly from the Latin word for lead, plumbum. The Romans referred to someone who worked with lead pipes as a plumbarius.

Widespread Use: Lead was heavily favored by Roman engineers for municipal water distribution because it was soft, durable, malleable, and easily melted and shaped into sheets or seamless pipes.

The Aqueduct Connection: While Rome's famous aqueducts transported water across vast distances using gravity through stone and concrete channels, lead pipes (known as fistulae) were standard for distributing that water from the public distribution castellum (water tanks) into public baths, fountains, and the homes of wealthy citizens.

Health Impact: Although the Romans were aware that lead could be harmful, they continued to use it extensively for centuries. The constant flow of mineral-rich water often created a protective scale lining inside the pipes, which limited the amount of lead leaching into the drinking water, though chronic lead exposure remained a notable health issue in urban centers.

Happy Thursday, everyone! 🛠️

Before you dive into your weekend plans, backyard BBQs, or head out of town, take 2 minutes to do a quick home plumbing check:

Locate your main water shut-off valve: In an emergency, knowing exactly where this is can save you thousands of dollars in water damage. Make sure everyone in the house knows where it is, too!

Test your sump pump: If you have one, pour a bucket of water into the pit to ensure it kicks on and drains properly before any weekend storms hit.

Check outdoor hoses: Disconnect garden hoses from spigots and check for any slow drips or leaks.

Taking care of these little things now means peace of mind all weekend long!

Windsor and Tecumseh have always been prone to flooding, but it’s hard to deny that the problem has gotten worse lately.

https://fowlerplumbing.ca/why-does-windsor-tecumseh-seem-to-flood-so-much/

Almost every storm comes with a flood warning that puts homeowners all over both cities on edge. What’s behind the increased risk? It’s probably a combination of a few different factors.

Windsor and Tecumseh have one obvious yet devastating characteristic that makes this area susceptible to floods: both cities are surrounded by water.
