Check out this newly constructed landscape for a property on Hecla Island. The property now features a calm granular walking path, a comfortable fire pit circle, a patio common area and a selection of plants native to the island. The design work responded to the existing elements, as well as the new cottage layout. Happy New Year from LandForum! For us, 2022 was filled with an eclectic list of projects taking us from school yards to commercial properties, public properties and private properties. We travelled to see clients all over Winnipeg as well as South and Central Manitoba, including: St. Adolphe, St. François Xavier, Breezy Point, St. Laurent, East St. Paul, Headingley and Hecla Island. This week's featured Friday post is a residential project located in China.

The project was built in ChengDu in Sichuan province. It was designed by Sean Gallagher while working at 思塔园林 (Sita Garden) Landscape.

The client's vision for her property included multiple locations for ornamental and vegetable gardening, shade, and an outdoor structure for serving tea. Views from the kitchen and living room windows were important. In addition, she requested dry circulation around the spaces in case of frequent rainy weather.

The client was pleased with the design and chose to promptly move ahead with construction. In Early 2017 the work was completed and ready for use.

Introducing Blaise Lachiver - Principal Landscape Architect

Blaise is a co-founder and Principal of LandForum Landscape Architects, and has over 10 years of experience in landscape architecture, design and planning. He believes in developing beautiful designs that embrace the genius loci - spirit of place. Blaise has several years of experience working for Manitoba Parks and Manitoba Conservation as a Park Planner & Designer, where he worked on a multitude of projects such as the planning and design of campgrounds and yurts, playground design and construction, and provincial park management plans. Blaise also worked as a Recreation and Playground Consultant for a design-build firm where he developed playgrounds and recreation facilities across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and NW-Ontario. His main focus during this tenure was to develop recreation spaces in indigenous and remote communities. He is a Canadian Certified Playground Inspector. Blaise has worked on multiple residential land development plans. Blaise currently holds a position as a Director of the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects.

Introducing Sean Gallagher - Principal Urban Designer

Sean is a co-founder and Principal at LandForum Landscape Architects. Sean is very passionate about balance in design. He embraces an urban form that is in harmony with all facets of human activity and the environment, from passive recreation to commerce. Sean has over 10 years of experience working in land development in the greater Winnipeg area, initially working on site as a Field Inspector for Stantec Consulting, and later as a Development Coordinator for Ladco Company Ltd. Most recently Sean managed the design and construction of a 750-metre-long extension of the active transportation network in the Prairie Pointe community. Previous to this he managed the construction of Eaglewood Park, a 5-acre greenspace in Prairie Pointe. Sean also has 5 years of experience working as a freelance residential designer in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. In 2016 he designed residential properties while residing in Chengdu, China. Sean is an associate member of the Manitoba Association of Landscape Architects.
