The door you see today is beautiful, and the door twenty years from now may be even better. ✨
For this project, we carefully restored the original arched door and frame, added a modern weatherstripping system for improved performance, installed a custom arched storm door, and designed a wider brickmould profile that better reflects the bold plank character of the original entrance. Every new component was crafted from solid sapele and finished in a rich, traditional stain designed to complement the home’s historic character. 🚪
But the real story is what happens next.
Unlike vinyl, fiberglass, or many modern synthetic materials that typically show wear as they age, quality wood develops a patina. Sunlight, touch, seasons, and time slowly contribute to a depth and richness that simply cannot be manufactured on day one.
The same philosophy guided the selection of the Rocky Mountain Hardware. Cast in solid bronze, these pieces are designed not to resist age, but to embrace it. Each touch, each season, and each passing year contributes to a living finish that becomes uniquely its own.
There is something refreshing about materials that don’t fight time. They’re meant to grow old gracefully.
