DREIROSENBRÜCKE - upgrading the bridge in the local newspaper.
GRUNER&FRIENDS, together with politician Michael Hug and Gruner engineers, wants to make green and upgrade the Dreirosenbrücke with a wooden pergola to prevent the entire area from becoming a heat island in the city. This should be seen as part of an overall concept, with the green upgrading and connection of all bridges and banks in the heart of Basel.
In addition, a new, horizontal symbol for Basel is to be created.
The connection from the Novartis Campus to Klybeck will be improved and the open space on the bridge will serve as a replacement for the loss of the Dreirosenanlage during the construction of the Rhine tunnel.
The bridge’s upper deck is re-surfaced with vegetations and softer paving adapted to each user’s paths. Islands in between the paths host meeting points, green zones, food trucks, sport & workout areas and others, spread along the bridge and working as cultural clusters. A lightweight timber pergola covers the bridge to reduce the solar incidence on the floor and to welcome and protect users. It is to also help reduce noise emissions from cars and trams passing over the bridge, while PV panels provide energy for neighboring buildings.
