Botsuana Twist is a collaborative project by DJ-Istar, founder of Sunrising Records, and musician Lee Schornoz (Louis Schornoz), who originally composed the track during a creative retreat in London in 2016.
Botsuana Twist is DJ-Istar's Afro House remix, combining infectious grooves with lush jungle-inspired textures that are already present in the original world music version. All vocals were recorded in 2018 at the Recording Studio of the Ministry of Information and Communication in Rundu, Northern Namibia, with Lee Schornoz supervising the recording sessions.
A long-time friend and collaborator of Schornoz, DJ-Istar envisioned transforming the original composition into an Afro House anthem while preserving its distinctive atmosphere. The remix captures the majestic spirit of the lion—the King of the Jungle—and evokes the untamed beauty and energy of the African wilderness.
The result is urban Afro House at its finest: authentic African-inspired rhythms, vibrant percussion and hypnotic melodies that tell a musical story of Botswana's wildlife and the breathtaking landscapes of the Okavango Delta. Whether enjoyed as a standalone listening experience or as the opening track of an Afro House DJ set, Botsuana Twist delivers both emotion and dancefloor appeal.
DJ-Istar has deep roots in electronic music, with influences ranging from Drum & Bass, Jungle, UK Garage and House to Afro House and Oriental House. His musical taste extends well beyond electronic genres, embracing Funk, Hip-Hop, Soul and Jazz, while remaining deeply inspired by the pioneering sound of classic Detroit Techno.
Over the years, DJ-Istar has performed at renowned clubs and festivals across Switzerland and has appeared on several local radio stations. He is the founder and owner of the record labels Sunrising Records, StarbrainRecords and E-Troit Records.
Lee Schornoz (schornoz.com) brings an exceptionally broad musical background, spanning Rock, Pop, Heavy Metal, Hip-Hop, Avant-garde Classical Music, Funk, Country, Polka and Rockabilly. He has also performed with an experimental Alien Rock group. As founder of Pro Stata Records, Warszawa, Polksa and nicrecords, he has gained extensive experience as both an artist and record label owner.
Throughout his career, Schornoz has toured in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and France, performing alongside artists such as Anshelle, Zeno Tornado & Ill Eagles, Groove Lords, Lawman, Theo's Fried Chickenstore, Subnee and many others. He has collaborated with Bernese Hip-Hop artists LDeep, elwont and WhoDis?, and composed his large-scale work Requiem Londinium, which was performed live by a symphony orchestra, choir and opera soloists, bringing together more than 100 performers on stage in both a church and a university setting.
