It's a long time since my last post, one time cause summer time is garden time, but especially the last months cause of medical reasons (a disc herniation prevented me from doing a lot). So I coudn't continue with working on the modules so far. But gladly I feel better again and hopefully I have time the next weeks for continuing. Plan is to work on the existing modules and laying first tracks, building the second Matterhorn module and scratch building the Matterhorn Mill (and other buildings there) with the help of the great plan of Mike Blazek.

Nevertheless I did some small things, one time I changed the McPhee area on the track plan cause I wasn't happy with that part so far (I will upload the new track plan later in another post). And then I created a little database for my rolling stock. So far I used Numbers (a Mac program like Excel) and thanks to Icloud I was able to see my inventory too on my IPhone, but was looking for a more flexible solution where I'm able for example to log updates (like a DCC install for locomotives) or add images.
After some research I found a DB-Application called Tapforms which exists for Desktop and Mobile and sync over ICloud so that I always have the newest version of the inventory on my IPhone too. There are still some things to improve but I'm quite happy with what I created so far (besides I included things like railroad books too). I attach some photos to this post, if someone is interested just let me know and I glady share what I have.

OK, enough for now, post is already very long. And not to forget, thanks a lot for nearly 400 likes and more than 400 subscribers, never expected that many!

Es ist schon einige Zeit her seit meinem letzten Post, einerseits da bei mir Sommerzeit in erster Linie Gartenzeit ist, v.a. aber da ich wegen einem Bandscheibenvorfall nicht allzu viel tun konnte (auch im Garten gab es einen Stillstand) und so auch die Arbeit an den Modulen nicht fortsetzen konnte. Glücklicherweise geht es nun wieder besser und ich hoffe in den nächsten Wochen wieder mehr Zeit zu finden an der Anlage weiterzumachen. Geplant ist an den existierenden Modulen zu arbeiten und bald einmal die ersten Schienen zu legen, das zweite Matterhorn Modul zu erstellen und die Matthorn Mill und andere Gebäude dort zu bauen (Scratchbuiling anhand der guten Pläne von Mike Blazek da keine Kits existieren).

Nichtsdestotrotz konnte ich einige kleinere Dinge machen, einerseits habe ich den Gleisplan für McPhee ziemlich umgestellt da ich bisher noch nicht zufrieden damit war (ich werde den neuen Plan in einem zukünftigen Beitrag hier posten). Andererseits habe ich mir eine kleine Datenbank für meine Modelleisenbahn angelegt. Bis jetzt hatte ich alles in Numbers (Mac program à la Excel) verwaltet und dank Icloud war es mir auch möglich mein Inventar unterwegs mit IPhone abzurufen, allerdings war mir das noch zu wenig flexibel und ich habe nach einer Lösung gesucht wo ich z.Bsp. auch Updates zu den einzelnen Fahrzeugen aufnehmen kann (wie eine Digitalisierung) und andererseits auch Fotos hinzufügen kann.
Nachdem ich mich einige Zeit umgesehen habe fand ich eine DB-Software mit dem Namen Tapforms die für Desktop und Mobile erhältlich ist und wo die DB per ICloud gesynct werden kann so dass ich immer auf meinem IPhone auch die aktuellste Version habe. Es gibt da noch einige Dinge zu verbessern, aber bis jetzt bin ich zufrieden mit der Datenbank die ich da aufgebaut habe (verwalte damit auch gleich Dinge wie Eisenbahn Bücher). Ich hänge hier einige Fotos an, falls jemand interessiert ist kann ich gerne meine Lösung weitergeben.

Some time ago since my last update, did some additions to the framework, but then with Covid-19 I decided to take everything needed at home to build there the first Matterhorn module (home workshop instead of home office). Next this way I was able to enjoy the warm spring and build the module in the garden.
Well, on the images you see the current state of the module. For the Matterhorn mill I created a mockup, cause I wasn't unhappy with the version shortened to fit on the module I decided to create a little module extension there (not built yet) that allow the longer version you see on the pictures. Still a shortened version, but like this the mill looks a lot more prototypical.
Next step is now to lasercut the buildings of Matterhorn and the mill, will for sure need some time. And probably build the second Matterhorn module and lay the first tracks.

Es ist einige Zeit vergangen seit dem letzten Update, hatte noch etwas am Unterbau weitergemacht, dann aber wegen Covid-19 beschlossen alles notwendige nach Hause zu nehmen und dort das erste Matterhorn Modul zu bauen (home workshop statt home office). Was zudem den Vorteil hatte dass ich den warmen Frühling geniessen und das Modul auf dem Sitzplatz im Garten bauen konnte.
Nun gut, auf den Fotos sieht man den aktuellen Baufortschritt des Moduls. Für die Matterhorn Mill habe ich ein Mockup erstellt, da ich dann aber mit der auf die Modulgrösse angepasste und stark gekürzten Version unzufrieden war habe ich beschlossen die Mill über den Modulrand herausragen zu lassen und da eine kleine Erweiterung des Moduls zu bauen (noch nicht erstellt). Auch so ist die Mill noch gekürzt, wirkt aber einiges glaubhafter und Vorbildsgetreuer.
Als nächsten Schritt erstelle ich nun per Lasercut alle notwendigen Gebäude und die Mill, was sicherlich einige Zeit in Anspruch nimmt. Und vielleicht baue ich noch das zweite Matterhorn Modul und lege dann die ersten Gleise.

I finished the benchwork for the Ophir loop and the highline till Matterhorn. After adding it for Matterhorn too I think I will start with the Matterhorn and Ophir modules (and then continue in the direction of Vance/Rigdway). The already existing modules I have already placed on the benchwork for testing. /
Der Unterbau steht nun auch für Ophir und die Highline bis Matterhorn. Sobald ich den Unterbau auch noch für Matterhorn erstellt habe werde ich dann mit den Modulen für Matterhorn und Ophir starten (und dann in Richtung Vance/Ridgway weitermachen). Die bisherigen Module habe ich zum testen auch bereits mal auf den Unterbau gestellt.

And here the newest member of my fleet, a PFM D&RGW C-19 #346. A really nice modell, altough it needs some work (no DCC, broken couplers and some other small things). I was thinking about relabeling it for the Montezuma Lumber, but cause the time of my Layout is autumn 1942 I decided now to leave it as it is . Hopefully I find one time a C-16 #271, the engine the Montezuma lumber used then (the #346 they acquired 1946 when they scraped the C-16). /
Hier noch das neueste Mitglied meiner Flotte, eine PFM C-19 #346. Ein wirklich schänes Modell, auch wenn es noch etwas zu tun gibt (DCC Umrüstung, kaputte Kupplungen und einige weitere kleine Dinge). Anfangs überlegte ich mir die Lok für die Montezuma Lumber umzubeschriften, habe mich nun aber dagegen entschieden da mein Layout im Herbst 1942 angesiedelt ist als die #346 noch für die D&RGW unterwegs war. Hoffentlich finde ich mal noch eine C-16 #271, die Lok die die Montezuma Lumber zu diesem Zeitpunkt eingesetzt hatte (die #346 wurde erst 1946 gekauft als sie die C-16 verschrotteten).

Although not yet finished with moving everything to the new room, I started yesterday evening with the benchworkin the new one. So here's the first little progress, place of the future Ames and the first part of Vance Junction. / Obwohl mit dem Zügeln in den neuen Raum noch nicht fertig, habe ich doch gestern Abend mal mit dem Unterbau im neuen begonnen. I started with the teardown of the benchwork in the old room, it was a good idea to use metal angle-sections (hope the right english word) cause so I could reuse everything in the new room again. In the new room I layed out the outline of the new layout to see how it comes, the aisles are wider than in the wold room (the room is wider too), nevertheless I'm thinking about to enlarge them a little (if possible). /
Diese Woche habe ich nun damit begonnen den Unterbau im alten Raum abzubauen, es war wirklich eine gute Idee Winkelprofile zu verwenden da ich so alles wieder im neuen Raum verwenden kann. Daneben habe ich mal im neuen Raum das zukünftige Layout im Raum ausgelegt um zu schauen wie es wird, gut ist dass die Gänge dank des breiteren Raumes nun auch etwas breiter sind, bin mir aber aktuell am überlegen ob es möglich ist sie noch etwas zu verbreitern.

Paralell to the track plan I already presented I worked on a second idea, leave away Durango and have more space for McPhee (which has IMHO not enough space on the first plan). And cause I like nevertheless to have an engine yard with roundhouse I tried to compress Ridgway to fit in the limited space I have.
Well, I'm very happy with the result, cause of this change I have more space for Dolores too and additionally for Lizard Head and Stoner. Ridgway is very compressed, but the trackplan of the engine yard is close to the prototype and the yard have space for more than 30 cars. Besides I have the idea to mount a mirror at the end of the yard tracks so that they look a lot longer (a trick I saw in some gardens).
OK, nevertheless it's a hard decision which plan to take, I always wanted Durango and have all important structures as kit or model and it's the only credible way to use my K37 and K36 (never see a photo with one in Ridgway, or am I wrong?). On the other side Durango is very big even without yard tracks (which I like to have cause there is no hidden yard). And Ridgway is from a RGS view probably more interesting. In addition cause my timeframe is October 1942 with the livestock traffic Lizard Head is very senseful addition. Besides I always wanted to have Stoner on my Layout too but not the space for it.
So I tend to realise this plan (for sure I still have to work on it), or what do you mean?

Paralell zum bereits vorgestellten Plan habe ich noch eine zweite Idee verfolgt, nämlich Durango wegzulassen um so mehr Platz für McPhee zu bekommen (das mir auf dem ersten Plan zuwenig Platz hat). Und da ich trotzdem ein Bahnbetriebswerk mit Rundlokschuppen haben wollte habe ich versucht stattdessen Ridgway auf dem limitierten zur Verfügung stehenden Platz zu komprimieren.
Nun gut, mit dem Resultat bin ich sehr zufrieden, dank dieser Aenderung habe ich auch mehr Platz für Dolores und zusätzlich für Lizard Head und Stoner. Ridgway ist zwar ziemlich komprimiert, aber der Gleisplan ist trotzdem nahe dem Vorbild und auf dem Rangierbahnhof habe ich Platz für mehr als 30 Wagen. Ausserdem habe ich die Idee am Ende der Rangiergleise einen Spiegel zu montieren so dass sie einiges länger wirken (habe den Trick schon in Gärten gesehen).
OK, nichtsdestotrotz ist es ein harter Entscheid welchen der Pläne ich nun umsetze, Durango wollte ich immer auf meinem Layout, und ich habe so auch alle wichtigen Gebäude als Kit oder Modell erworben. Zudem ist es der wohl einzige realistische Ort meine K37 und K36 zu benutzen (in Ridgway waren die soviel ich weiss nie, oder irre ich mich da?). Andererseits nimmt Durango sehr viel Platz weg auch ohne Rangierbahnhof (den ich gerne hätte mangels Schattenbahnhof). Und Ridgway ist auch RGS-Sicht wohl eher interessanter. Und da mein Zeitfenster der Oktober 1942 ist mit all den Viehtransporten macht Lizard Head sehr viel Sinn. Abgesehen davon wollte ich immer Stoner auf meinem Layout, aber es gab bisher nie genug Platz.
So tendiere ich stark diesen Plan umzusetzen (natürlich muss ich noch einiges verbessern), oder was meint Ihr?

And I know Bilk was on the track to Placerville and not Telluride, but well I wanted an additional stock yard (and Telluride hasn't one, or am I wrong?). Next the logging track in Matterhorn is on the wrong side, but like that I could add a little not prototypical logging scene. What do you think?

Und hier noch ein erster Entwurf des neuen Gleisplans. Und ja ich weiss, Bilk war am Gleis nach Placerville und nicht nach Telluride, aber ich wollte einfach noch einen Stockyard (und Telluride hatte keinen, oder liege ich da falsch?). Zudem ist auch Logging Gleis in Matterhorn auf der falschen Seite, aber so konnte ich eine nicht orginalgetreue Logging Szene da anhängen. Was meint Ihr?
