C'est après un premier tour du monde en bateau alimenté par l'énergie solaire et ayant démontré qu'il est possible de voyager de manière autonome tout en préservant l'environnement, que Raphaël Domjan a décidé d'aller encore plus loin et au-delà de ce qui avait été réalisé avec les combustibles fossiles et l'hélium. Avec cette mission baptisée SolarStratos, Raphaël Domjan, l'initiateur et pilote du projet, souhaite démontrer le potentiel des énergies renouvelables au grand public avec l'ambition d'ouvrir une porte notamment en termes d’aviation électrico-solaire.
*** En 2020, le team SolarStratos a réalisé deux premières mondiales: Raphaël Domjan a en effet effectué le premier saut de l’histoire depuis un avion électrique et aussi accompli la première chute libre solaire, sans aucune émission de CO2. Grâce à ces premières mondiales, nous avons pu faire passer notre message au niveau mondial. Au-delà des innovations technologiques, SolarStratos a pu démontrer qu'avec les technologies d'aujourd'hui, il est possible de réaliser de nouveaux exploits sans utiliser d'énergies fossiles, il est possible de voler sans émettre de pollution, et il est possible de faire du parachutisme sans créer d'impact sur l'environnement.

SolarStratos is the name of the mission of the SolarXplorers SA group and is a swiss solar aircraft based in Payerne Airport, Switzerland. The mission "SolarStratos, to the edge of space" aims to become the first manned stratospheric solar flight in history. It will improve our knowledge and develop technologies for a more environmentally friendly world. SolarStratos is a symbol of pioneering spirit to demonstrate the potential of renewable energies and energy efficiency for climate protection. It will be a risky, committed flight at the limits of knowledge and current technology. It is after a first round-the-world trip by boat powered by solar energy and having demonstrated that it is possible to travel in autonomous way while protecting the environment, that Raphaël Domjan has decided to go even further and beyond what has been achieved so far only with fossil fuels and helium. With this new expedition called SolarStratos he wanted to unveil this potential to the general public with the ambition to open a door on a market-oriented electro-solar aviation.
*** In 2020, SolarStratos achieved two world premieres: Raphaël Domjan made the first jump in history from an electric plane and also accomplished the first solar free fall, without any CO2 emissions. With these world premieres, we were able to send our message worldwide. Beyond the technological innovations we were able to showcase that with today's technologies it is possible to achieve new feats without using fossil fuels, it is possible to fly without emitting pollution and it is possible to skydive without creating an impact on the environment.
