It was a short trip this time in Belgrade, the city I love and feel so close.
I had the chance to see one performance - unfortunately only one - at the 23rd Belgrade Dance Festival.
The Barbarous Nights, by Herve Koubi Company, at Yugoslav Drama Theatre, impressed me for many reasons. The dance, the costumes, the music, the feeling, the message, the story - a story of a path, of Mediterranean, of reconciliation, of unity, of freedom, it was one night to remember, the 7th of April.
In total 15 performances presented in this year’s festival, all different, all high level, most of them in sold out theatres, left best impression as my Serbian friends told
me.
The Belgrade Dance Festival has gained, by the years, fame and respect, not only in Serbia. It gave and continues to give the best moments of dance, the love for dance, the inspiration and passion, of the artistic director, Aja Jung, who never stops dreaming and making dreams come true.
"Dance is the only art which is celebrating freedom, but coming from the discipline. It is sudden, beautiful, open for many ideas and thoughts, involving all other arts to serve it… It has no words, which means it can not lie," Aja told me and this makes sense.
I want to thank Aja for the experience and for the hospitality and wish her all the best.
