We are pleased to announce that LOCUS – Location Sustainability Assessment for Climate-Resilient Development in Cyprus, a research project initiated and coordinated by ADP, has been selected for funding under the Research and Innovation Foundation's (RIF) Research in Enterprises programme.
LOCUS brings together ADP, Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου | University Of Cyprus and Algolysis LTD in an 18-month interdisciplinary research initiative that seeks to rethink how we evaluate the sustainability of development locations.
While conventional approaches to sustainable construction focus primarily on the environmental performance of individual buildings, LOCUS shifts attention to a fundamental question: How sustainable is the location in which we choose to build?
The project will develop a new Location Sustainability Index, combining geospatial analysis, urban accessibility, sustainable mobility and climate resilience. It will assess factors including walkability, access to public transport and everyday amenities, proximity to green spaces, and pedestrian comfort under Cyprus's increasingly challenging summer temperatures.
These research findings will inform the development of a digital assessment tool, enabling architects, developers and planners to make more informed, evidence-based decisions about where and how to build.
For ADP, LOCUS represents an important step in connecting architectural practice with applied research and technological innovation, reinforcing our commitment to shaping more sustainable, resilient and liveable urban environments.
We look forward to working with our research partners to translate this research into practical tools for the built environment.
