Herbert Dreiseitl had an insightful conversation with Markus Vahlefeld about the captivating focus of our program: The Flow of Water.

In our discussion, we delved deep into the significance of water as an elemental force, its dance with the moon, and the incredible balance it brings to our lives.

What does it mean to build with water? How can we design with this powerful element in mind? These are the questions we explored, unraveling the profound connection between landscape architecture, design, and the ever-moving, ever-adapting nature of water.

Aber was bedeutet ...

May your festive season be filled with peace and relaxation!

Amidst turbulence, resistance, and disruption, water consistently discovers its flow paths—resilient, creative, sustainable, and always with an impressive aesthetic. The substantial challenges and conflicts of our time may be disheartening, yet they serve as a wake-up call to recognize what is truly important in life.

Yesterday, Bettina Dreiseitl-Wanschura and I checked out the new "River Lab" in Vienna. Professor Habersack gave us a cool tour of this awesome groundbreaking hydraulic laboratory. He told us the lab can pump out 10,000 liters per second without using any pumps, and they can do model tests at a 1:1 scale. We were present by testing specific shifts of river sediment.

Just in times of digitalization, I love this reality of real phenomena, touch and including our senses and mind within engineering, research, and art.

Let's also recall our ongoing project on "Seasonal Water", on how we tested water flow continuously to shape our design outcomes.

We always love to carry out hands-on water experiments before any lecture as it provides viewers with a tangible and interactive experience, allowing them to delve into the complexities of flow dynamics while simultaneously uncovering the captivating beauty inherent in water's behavior.

By actively engaging in experiments, observers can witness firsthand the mesmerizing patterns, reactions, and transformative qualities that water exhibits, leading to a more profound comprehension and appreciation of this essential element.

The interactive nature of hands-on experiments serves as a powerful educational tool, transcending theoretical knowledge and fostering a deeper connection with the fluid dynamics and aesthetic allure of water.

These are some impressions at ETH Zurich, Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) in Singapore. Thank you Evi Syariffudin very much for moderating the lecture and it was such a pleasure to be able to reconnect.

A big thank you to Michelle and Rex from Our Green MoCa - Moulmein-Cairnhill for taking us on a mini-tour around Cambridge Road.

Back to 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19, we held a virtual workshop titled "Live Sketching Get-Together," organized by the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC).

The event brought together key members from the Green Pek Kio Team, government agencies, and a selected group of Moulmein-Cairnhill residents to actively participate in the design and planning discussions for Cambridge Road Estate.

The workshop spanned over 3.5 hours and included a dynamic combination of brainstorming, communication, sketching, and round-table discussions.

It's such a privilege to be part of this project coming to fruition, being spearheaded by dedicated change-makers in our society!

Yesterday marked the end of an inspiring semester alongside Prof Veera Sekaran at NUS Cities as the students (from varied backgrounds and professions) of CDE4501, Topics in Challenges of Cities: Nature-based Urban Innovations, showcased their remarkable projects.

Throughout the semester, these bright minds delved deep into the challenges faced by cities and explored innovative, nature-based solutions. Each group project demonstrated a commitment to shaping the future of urban living.

The dedication and passion exhibited by the students were truly commendable. Their ability to apply their learnings to real-world scenarios showcased not only academic excellence but also a genuine enthusiasm for creating positive change.

Big thanks for your engagement and passion. It has been a very creative and interesting class and we could all learn a lot. Dear students, we wish you all the best in your professional and private life!

Embracing the Artistry of Water: Student Creations. Here at NUS Cities Singapore, we've conducted a simple drawing exercise with the students on water lines and flow. These young minds have brought water to life on paper, expressing its fluidity, tranquility, and power in their own unique ways. Their work is a testament to the power of art in conveying the beauty and significance of fluid thinking.
