Jade Visions
Freshly painted, just in time for its first exhibition. Come see it in person at .workshops this Thursday alongside works by .korpela, and say hi 🎨🩵
Some paintings take time to find themselves. This one started as a question: how do you paint a friendship?
Not any friendship — the specific, rare kind where two people are so attuned that the music they make together couldn’t exist without both equally present. ✨
Bill Evans and Scott LaFaro had that. Evans floating, searching, luminous; LaFaro underneath, steady and warm, but never just accompanying. He listens so closely he finishes thoughts that haven’t been spoken yet.
Bill Evans has inspired a few introspective paintings of mine, he’s one of my favorite pianists🎹 but this one is special because painting dialogue is something else.
It means finding two visual languages that coexist without one swallowing the other. The real work was getting them to actually talk, to meet, cross over, exchange the lead.
Creative friendship is like that. It asks you to hold your own voice while staying completely open to someone else’s. To be fully yourself without compromising — because if it’s someone who truly understands the creative value you carry, what you build together can be something neither of you could have reached alone. 💫
If you want to go deeper into their story, check out Everybody Digs Bill Evans (2026), Grant Gee’s film about their friendship. 🎶🤗
