Frosch® Exclusive Perennials produces hardy lady's slipper orchids (Cypripedium hybrids) wholesale Sales are handled internationally by acknowledged nurseries.

The Cypripedium nursery Frosch® Exclusive Perennials is run by Michael Weinert. 1994 the idea was born to propagate large numbers from promising lady´s slipper hybrids for garden enthusiasts. In the meantime a selection of high-quality crosses has been created, which enables laymen to successfully grow lady´s slippers in the garden. The plants are grown outside without any chemical pest control in

the rough climate of upper Bavaria and are therefore totally hardy. It is not before 3-6 years in soil that the plants are sold. That´s why our clients can be sure of acquiring vigorous and healthy orchids, which continue to grow without problems in their gardens. Our lady´s slipper hybrids are proof that not all cypripediums have to be delicate and expensive.

Dactylorhiza hybrids (hardy marsh orchids) can be incredibly beautiful and impressive in the garden. They are easy to grow and tolerate a wide range of conditions, unlike hardy lady’s slipper orchids (Cypripedium). They are perfect for beginners who are new to growing garden orchids.

This is my newly registered hardy lady’s slipper hybrid, Cypripedium Annika. It is a pretty exotic cross between Cypripedium × alaskanum and californicum and shows an extraordinary range of colours — from guttatum-like to alaskanum-like flowers, unfortunately not much of californicum in it.

This hybrid will be available in autumn 2027 in small numbers.

It grows and multiplies almost like a ground cover and is quite resistant to hot spells in summer, while on the other hand being hardy down to USDA zone 3. Height approximately 20 cm (8 inches), with flowers about the size of a thumbnail. Cute!

Cypripedium Victoria (a hardy lady's slipper orchid) in pot culture by Mikael Anderlund in Sweden. Congratulations to him, because cypripediums are easier planted out in the garden than in pots. They are fully hardy and like to grow in shade to half-shade.

Cypripedium Ulla Silkens is one of the most vigorous and robust hardy lady's slipper hybrids for the garden. It even can withstand the effects of climate change to some extent. Due to its hairy leaves it can grow a bit sunnier than most other cypripediums. It tolerates wetter conditions at the edge of a pond as well as drier conditions and heat for some time. It is hardy down to USDA zone 4 and even grows well north of the Arctic Cycle (last picture).
