🌒 What can a solar eclipse tell us about energy?

Yesterday’s solar eclipse offered more than a spectacular view across Europe. It also provided a visible example of something the energy sector manages every day: variability in renewable generation.

As sunlight decreases during an eclipse, solar PV output can fall — and then recover within a relatively short period of time.
As Europe integrates increasing amounts of renewable energy, managing this variability requires greater flexibility across the energy system.

This is where battery energy storage can play an important role — storing electricity when it is available and making it available when needed, while supporting a more flexible and resilient power system.

🚛 Europe's Largest Battery Energy Storage System Built for Logistics.
Large-scale energy storage is playing an increasingly important role in supporting Europe's energy transition and the electrification of commercial transport.
Located at Schachinger Logistik's headquarters in Hörsching, Austria, this 60MWh / 30MW battery energy storage project integrates with an 8MW photovoltaic system to increase on-site renewable energy utilisation, support overnight charging for electric truck fleets, and enhance operational energy resilience.
In addition to optimising on-site energy use, the system will provide grid balancing services and emergency backup power, helping strengthen grid flexibility while supporting the decarbonisation of the logistics sector.
As one of Austria's largest energy storage projects and Europe's largest battery energy storage system built for a logistics application, this landmark project highlights the growing role of battery energy storage in enabling a smarter, more resilient and sustainable energy future.
