KoMSO - Committee for Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and Optimization

THE GERMAN NETWORK FOR MATHEMATICS & INDUSTRY

The Committee for Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and Optimization (KoMSO) is a strategic alliance that was founded in response to the Strategy Day for Mathematics 2020, established by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in 2008. As concluded at the St

rategy Day, the great potential of MSO for society as well as competitiveness of industry and economy can be tapped in considerably better ways, such as by specific network activities and new cooperation structures as well as intensified communication and public outreach measures. Consequently, KoMSO was established in May 2011 within the BMBF program “Mathematics for Innovations in Industry and Services” that has been conducted successfully since 1993, and has influenced the landscape of MSO research lastingly. The KoMSO Coordination Office connects decentralized networks by region and topic, organizes cooperation and experience exchange as well as makes visible the overall network.

Allgemeine Information

OBJECTIVES KoMSO unites the triad of mathematical modeling, simulation and optimization as new field of technology in research and development to reinforce the innovational strength of Germany as a location of technology. Previously undiscovered or only partially utilized potentials of MSO are to be detected and made visible. KoMSO is dedicated to gradually implement the objectives of the Strategy Day for Mathematics 2020: • Promoting MSO – “mathematical modeling, simulation and optimization” – as a key enabling technology • Strengthening public awareness of state-of-the-art research in MSO • Intensifying cooperation of university and industry • Accelerating implementation of mathematical and computational innovations COOPERATION KoMSO sustains cooperative ties with both research groups and scientific institutions nationally and internationally, and seeks to enhance exchange between academia and industry while, simultaneously, strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation within the sciences in order to improve existing relations as well as to launch new initiatives. At an international level, KoMSO serves as the German network node in the European Service Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation (EU-MATHS-IN), which consists of various national or multinational industrial mathematics networks.
