Topping-out ceremony on Landwehrstraße.
Few parts of Munich are currently undergoing as much change as the area around the main railway station. The development surrounding the new central station is set to become one of the city’s largest urban transformation areas in the years ahead. Our project, , is part of this transformation – and last week, we celebrated its topping-out ceremony.
By retaining the existing structure, we are helping to ensure that the building’s history remains visible. We are continuing its story while giving it a new purpose. At the same time, we are increasing the existing floor space by 30 per cent, made possible by an efficient structural solution – right in the heart of the city and within an extremely constrained site.
Following Fritz, landN is our second adaptive reuse project in the neighbourhood. The historic building is being transformed into a workplace where interaction is central to the concept. We are opening up the ground floor to the street, with a café, entrance and event space connecting the building to its surroundings. In this way, landN contributes to the lively ground-floor spaces that the neighbourhood needs. We are also bringing the courtyard and roof back into use, adding lightweight, flexible steel structures that create space for people to meet.
In this way, the building captures the atmosphere of Landwehrstraße and brings its urban character to life. A networked building is taking shape – a place that combines flexibility, proximity and urban quality, and reimagines the modern workplace as an open, connected environment.
