Designer Spotlight: Friederike Faller
At Holscher Design, we believe in enduring relevance, intelligent simplicity and an architectural approach to product design. This week, we spotlight Partner Friederike Faller, whose work has helped shape our design philosophy for nearly three decades.
About Friederike Faller
Trained as an architect in Karlsruhe and Copenhagen, Friederike is both architect and industrial designer. Since joining Holscher Design in 1997, she has developed products across architectural hardware, lighting, sanitary design, urban products and mobility, collaborating with international brands including d line, Erco, Flos and LG Electronics.
Her architectural perspective brings clarity, precision and human-centred functionality to every project.
What drives your design philosophy?
“I’m driven by the intersection of architecture and industrial design. Good design should make everyday life easier, better and more dignified, while bringing clarity and lasting value.”
Which project best reflects Holscher Design’s DNA?
“Architectural hardware. It’s a discipline where the smallest details carry the biggest responsibility. When a product feels like a natural part of the architecture, we’ve succeeded.”
Her role in the iF Design Award Jury
As Chairperson and long-standing juror of the iF Design Award, Friederike evaluates design across categories including Lighting, Building Technology, Telecommunications and Audio.
For her, good design goes beyond a good idea:
“Design has to make sense and solve actual problems. We need solutions that respect people and resources, make technology approachable and, of course, bring beauty.”
What gives you energy in your work?
“Working with people across cultures and disciplines. The exchange of perspectives constantly challenges my assumptions and opens up new ways of thinking.”
Through her work, Friederike continues to champion design that is thoughtful, purposeful and built to last.
