𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱
Located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲 is considered the most sustainable building in the world, thanks to its innovative design and advanced technology. This office building, developed by 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲 and designed by the architectural firm 𝗣𝗟𝗣 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, achieved an unprecedented 𝟵𝟴.𝟯𝟲% score in the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) sustainability index.
𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀
Energy Efficiency:
The Edge is a nearly 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 building. Its façade is covered with solar panels that generate more energy than it consumes, enabling the building to meet its energy needs and return the surplus to the grid.
Smart Consumption Management:
Thanks to an integrated 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 (𝗜𝗼𝗧) 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺, each space in the building adjusts lighting, ventilation, and temperature according to specific needs, optimizing resources and reducing waste.
Eco-Friendly Design:
The structure utilizes 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 and 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 materials, while large windows allow abundant natural light to enter, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Water Management:
The Edge 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 and 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 for non-potable functions, such as garden irrigation and cooling systems.
𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
The Edge is designed to be a "𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴." A mobile app connects employees with the building, allowing them to book desks, adjust their environmental conditions, and optimize their work activities. This approach not only enhances the user experience but also promotes energy efficiency.
𝗔 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
The Edge is not only an example of sustainability but also redefines how buildings can interact with their occupants and the environment. Its model combines eco-friendly design, advanced technology, and operational efficiency, setting a benchmark for future constructions.
This building demonstrates that 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 and 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 can go hand in hand to create more responsible, efficient, and enjoyable spaces.
