Summer may be over, but your AC is carrying a few souvenirs 👀

A friend recently came home after being away all summer while his house was rented out. With the AC being used constantly through the hottest months, the filters needed serious attention when he returned.

And it got us thinking: when did you last check yours?

During a Costa Blanca summer, AC systems can run for hours every day. Dust, pet hair and other airborne particles are constantly being caught by the filters - and in dusty conditions or with heavy use, they can become dirty surprisingly quickly.

Some manufacturers recommend checking and cleaning washable filters as often as every 2 weeks during periods of regular use.

But filters are only the part you can easily reach yourself.

Your AC filters are one part of the system you can - and should - take care of yourself.

As an easy rule, check them every month and clean them when needed. If your AC runs every day, you have pets, live in a dusty area or there’s construction nearby, check them more often. Some manufacturers recommend cleaning as often as every 2 weeks during regular use.

Why bother? A clogged filter restricts airflow and makes your AC work harder. Daikin estimates that, under its test conditions, a filter left uncleaned for a year may increase energy consumption by around 25% 👀

But here’s the important part:

Cleaning the filters is not the same as cleaning your AC.

Behind them are the coil, fan, drainage system, internal trays and other areas you normally can’t properly access with a quick DIY clean. Dust, moisture and buildup can accumulate there too - creating conditions where mold and microorganisms may develop.

So think of it like this:

Regularly → filters. You can do this yourself ✔️
At least once a year → professional inspection & deep cleaning ✅
