Rhizoma Design and Research Lab is excited to share the Call for Postcards “OUT-OF-MAP – Feminist narratives of public space”, inviting artists, designers, architects, researchers, students, activists, and curious citizens to reflect on how feminist perspectives can reshape public space.
Through the simple yet powerful format of a postcard, this collective project explores the emotional, relational, and political dimensions of everyday urban life in public space.

The Call for Postcards OUT-OF-MAP: Feminist Narratives of Public Space invites artists, architects, designers, researchers, students, citizens, activists, and anyone interested to participate in a collective reflection on how feminist perspectives can reshape the way we understand our cities, with a particular focus on open public spaces.
The call aims to collect contributions in the form of postcards and to select a group of them for the exhibition scheduled for October 2026 in Barcelona.
Participants are invited to be guided by one or more of the following questions, not necessarily to answer them directly, but to carry them as companions in their reflection on how we live in, and wish to live in, our cities while creating their postcard:
– What makes a public space feminist?
– How do we experience public space through different identities?
– How does a feminist public space look and feel?
– Which stories are included, and which remain invisible?
– How can feminist perspectives transform the way we imagine, plan, design, and use public space?
This choral project aims to uncover what is left off the map: the emotional, relational, and political dimensions of urban life that are often neglected in conventional urban narratives.

✨ Last week we had the pleasure of presenting at the VIII Biennale dello Spazio Pubblico in Rome!

🎤 We were invited to join the special session: “Agenda 2030. Objective 11.7” coordinated by Manuela Alessi (BiSP).
Our talk, “Out-of-Map: spazi pubblici femministi tra processo e progetto”, explored feminist approaches to public space through both process and design.

🌍 Thanks to everyone who joined us and to the .spazio.pubblico for the inspiring platform.

We are excited to announce that we are curating the special issue of Open Cultural Studies: “Designing the Feminist City: Projects, Practices, and Processes for Urban Public Spaces”.

* How are feminist theories and practices embodied in urban public space’s design and professional dimensions?
* What processes and practices emerge from a feminist approach to the design of urban public space?
* What defines a feminist approach to the design of urban public space?

This issue explores feminist perspectives on urban transformation, inviting contributions on:

* Feminist projects/artefacts

Last week we had the chance to reconnect with the RMIT PRS network at BAU, right where we started with our research journey in the field of Design Research in 2015! After the long pandemic years it’s been great to meet again the academics and professionals that make this inspiring and growing community! Lectures, PhD presentations, and drinks to celebrate the reconnection beyond the screens!
