Delighted to be featured in the May issue of The World of Interiors, showcasing La Palmera. In this issue, Susana Ordovás recounts the story behind the transformation of these three former fishermen’s houses in Cadaqués into a contemporary home, carried out with great respect for the existing structures and the vernacular architecture of this area of the Catalan coast.

The Palm Tree House
 
This old set of fishermen’s houses in Cadaqués, located between shared walls and built in the mid-18th century, was restored by Ramón Duran i Reynals in the mid-20th century, resulting in a single residence called “La Palmera”.
 
The interior of the house combines the original decorative elements of the fishermen’s homes with traditional construction techniques and materials that were respected throughout the renovation process. An example of this is the small altar that preserves the original carving of the Virgin.

This frame illustrates the opening we created during the renewal of La Palmera in order to strength the relationship between the main living areas and the entrance of the house.

During the renewal process of La Palmera, the restoration of the original doors and shutters made it possible to create new interior woodwork, including doors and closets. This approach has given these elements a second life, preserving their historical essence and ensuring a sense of continuity throughout the renovation.
