PARACIA STORE

Research was conducted to identify industrial-use elements available on the market that could be used modularly while enhancing the material value of the space. Qualities such as light reflection and lightness were prioritised to make the place wider, while seamlessly integrating the displayed products with the surrounding architecture. The material solutions, primarily made of galvanised steel, create a flexible system that can be adapted to all elements and modified over time, subtly emphasising the prominence of Paracia’s footwear.

All components were dry-machined using nuts and threaded rods; others additionally function through their own weight and friction, secured with recycled rubber band fasteners. These solutions allow for easy assembly, serialisation, on-site adjustments, and disassembly for future reconfiguration.

PARACIA STORE

The project was executed in two phases:

The first phase focused on the interior, removing false ceilings and claddings to restore the original raw space of an early 20th-century building. A new “line of reference” was established at 2.30m, unifying the interior spaces and creating a horizontal distinction between the historical character of the building and its new use. The painted floor and walls form a neutral continuous surface.

The second phase involved the custom design and production of shop displays and lighting, carried out entirely by KAL A workshop, making the most out of the small space potential.

PARACIA STORE

Paracia Store was conceived as a close collaboration between the client, Paracia’s owner Knu Kim .kim , and the architects KAL A .a_ and Brussels based architect Carlota Álvarez . Through this dialogue, rooted in the brand’s concept, the design and production process were brought to life. The ultimate goal: transform a small historic dairy shop into a new footwear store in the central district of Conde Duque, Madrid.

Casa 17

The kitchen is designed and made to measure at KAL A’s workshop, using a solid cherry wood modular system, which organises an open and functional kitchen, where flexible furniture and electrical appliances can be integrated. This system allows for multiple future modifications and improvements that will transform the kitchen along with the way of living in the house. The aim is once again to recover the industrial character of the surroundings, which is also reflected in the metallic finishes and surfaces.

Casa 17

The distribution strategy consists of maximizing the living areas of the house and its light, at the expense of reducing the number of rooms, which had been too compartmentalized and small. The kitchen and living space are connected, although separated by the structural wall of the first bay of the building. This element, which has three equal passageways, allows a constant and fluid relationship between the two spaces, while maintaining their independence.

The kitchen is custom designed and manufactured in KAL A’s workshop, using a modular system of solid cherry slats, which organizes an open and functional kitchen, where flexible furniture and appliances can be integrated. This system allows for multiple future modifications and improvements that will transform the kitchen along with the way of living in the house. The industrial character of the environment is again sought to be recovered, which is also reflected in the finishes and metallic surfaces.
