10 YEARS / 11 METRES / ONE AXE
In 2016, we made this 11-metre reception desk for Hotel Presidentti in the heart of Helsinki, as part of the hotel’s renewal designed by KOKO3.
The entire wooden surface was hewn by hand with an axe — metre after metre, mark after mark.
I happened to visit the hotel again now, ten years later. The desk is still there, still in daily use, and somehow the years have only made it better.
There is something satisfying about seeing a piece you made a decade ago still doing exactly what it was made to do.
