Today marks a significant milestone for our community with the official launch of the Return and Earn Initiative at Laqere Market, led by the Minister for Local Government and Housing, Hon. Maciu Nalumisa. In his address, the Minister highlighted the importance of this initiative in promoting responsible waste management and protecting our environment for future generations. He stressed that recycling is not just about reducing waste, but about creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for all. By properly disposing of recyclable materials such as plastic bottles and containers, we reduce pollution, keep our surroundings clean, and contribute to the overall well-being of our communities.
One of the key messages shared today is that this initiative empowers our people to take ownership of their environment while also providing an opportunity to earn income. Instead of throwing away plastic waste, individuals can now collect and return these items to designated points and receive financial returns. This simple yet impactful approach encourages positive behaviour change, ensuring that waste is managed responsibly while also supporting livelihoods.
Our Chairman, who was also present at the event, echoed these sentiments and emphasised the importance of instilling these values from a young age. It was especially encouraging to see students from St. John Bosco in attendance, as this initiative provides a valuable opportunity to educate and inspire the younger generation about environmental responsibility. Teaching our children the importance of recycling today ensures that they grow up with the right mindset to care for and protect our environment tomorrow.
To our community, we kindly urge you all to make full use of this initiative. Let us take pride in keeping our environment clean by reducing littering and embracing recycling as part of our daily lives. Instead of discarding plastic waste carelessly, let us turn it into something valuable helping both our environment and our pockets at the same time.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, partners, councils, and individuals who worked tirelessly to make this launch a success. Your commitment and collaboration have made it possible for this important initiative to come to life. Together, let us continue working hand in hand towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for Nasinu and beyond.
