Reflections from the Road: A Tough Time for Jone Dagese Investment
This year, something happened that shook us deeply.
Our work truck, the very heart of Jone Dagese Investment, was rear-ended and pushed into other vehicles by a careless, over-speeding bus driver. That truck has been with us since the second year of operation, when this business was just a dream and a set of tools, slowly getting its name out there in the market. It’s not just a vehicle. It’s how we’ve built roofs, delivered materials, created livelihoods, and built trust with our clients across Fiji.
This devastating accident happened less than three years after we bought our truck, and the damage has been significant, quoted in the thousands of dollars, and it also resulted in minor injury. Since then, we’ve had to pause operations, something we’ve never had to do before.
The time since has been a test of patience, resilience, and faith. It’s been frustrating, painful, and at times disheartening. But it’s also reminded us just how much responsibility all drivers carry, not just for themselves, but for everyone else on the road.
We did nothing wrong, yet we’ve paid a heavy price, as a business, as a team, and as a family. And we know we’re not alone. The recent rise in road accidents across Fiji shows that this is a growing issue, affecting lives and livelihoods far too often.
When we started this business in 2020 with nothing but determination, we invested in one second-hand twin cab. We knew the road ahead wouldn’t be easy as a new name in construction industry. But we never expected to be sidelined by something so preventable, the irresponsibility of others.
To our clients and community: thank you for your continued understanding, patience, and support. We’re slowly getting back on our feet, and we’re happy to share that we are now resuming operations again, stronger and more focused than ever.
And to every driver reading this: please drive responsibly. It could make all the difference, in someone’s life, or someone’s dream.
