Ashton Electro-Acoustic Guitar brought in by Elisha of Namadi Heights for repair. We repaired the broken headstock, fixed a loose brace, cleaned and lubricated the keys. We set the instrument up with a bone nut and saddle for best tone and playability. This guitar has a solid spruce top and the frets were still new, unworn. Most Asian made instruments like this are built with very light timbers and players need to use light strings or tune below standard and slacken strings when the instrument is not in use.

Repair of Blitz Classical Guitar for Mrs Santos of the Phillipines. We had to remove the original keys with worn out cogs and refit a new set of keys. We cleaned and set-up the instrument for the best tone and playability. Keys usually wear out quickly on cheap mass produced guitars and when fitting a new set of keys, the quality is much higher and the keys last longer. Keys also wear out quickly due to having the full amount of string wound on the post from when brand new. This is due to factory or shop personnel stringing up the instrument. Strings should have 3 - 6 wraps on the key's post or plastic cylinder. Having too little wraps can cause damage to the guitar. Eg. tying the string to the post and quickly tuning up and leaving the guitar tuned will cause parts of the guitar to break, apart from damaging the key's cogs. The string needs a few wraps to act as a spring. Using steel strings on a classical guitar will also damage it.
