Today I can finally show you the finished floor at Cognac Meukow.
The inset video in the top corner shows the work that brought us to this result. Our clients signed off the project yesterday afternoon, once the final coat was dry. They were amazed by the transformation, and we’re extremely proud of what we’ve achieved.
The aim was always to preserve this 200-year-old floor and the authenticity it brings to the building. When we started, we couldn’t know exactly what lay beneath the carpet or what condition the timber would be in.
The finished floor still carries marks of its history. Restoring it allowed our clients to retain that character at a lower cost than replacing it. That was why we were commissioned to carry out this work.
For restoration complexity, I’d put this one at 8 out of 10.
Here’s what went into this 55 m² room
• Four days removing the heavily glued carpet, adhesive and self levelling compound, using specialist machinery and diamond cutters.
• A day and a half sanding the exposed floor.
• A full day cleaning out the joints and refining the details.
• Half a day carrying out repairs.
• Thorough cleaning and checks before applying the finishes, which took another day and a half.
A complex project from start to finish from lifting the carpet to the finished floor you see here.
This room also marks the completion of our work at the main residential house of Cognac Meukow. We have restored floors throughout the property in four stages over just more than a year.
It has been a privilege to help preserve this remarkable building and keep its history intact. Above all, knowing how happy our clients are with the work makes this final stage particularly rewarding.
