The Wheeler Mansion • Open House Chicago

Built in 1870, and still the best dressed house on the block.

This is the only surviving historic mansion on Calumet Avenue. The Wheeler Mansion was built in 1870 for Calvin T. Wheeler, a banker and member of the Chicago Board of Trade.

The current owner acquired the property in 1997 for $10,000 then spent 18 months restoring the vacant and crumbling building.

Wheeler Mansion reopened in 1999 as a boutique hotel with 11 guest rooms and suites. In 1998, it was designated a Chicago Landmark.
