The render colour and timber cladding combination on this one. 🤍
It's the detail that pulls everything together - warm timber against a natural sand render, dark roof, timber frame glazing. Classic Alpine without being overdone.

Landscaping still to come, but from the outside - this one is looking the part.

It’s called a Maître d’Oeuvre  and not having one is one of the most expensive mistakes you can make when building in France.

Here’s what they actually do:
→ Coordinate and manage all trades on site
→ Track budget and flag problems before they cost you
→ Ensure RE2020 compliance from design through to sign-off → Carry 10-year legal accountability for the build

For anyone building this isn’t optional. It’s the difference between a project that runs and one that doesn’t.

At ECSUS, our Maître d’Oeuvre is Steve Downs - a bilingual architect, French-registered and fully insured, with years of experience delivering eco chalet builds across the French Alps.

You stay in control. We deal with everything else.

It means one team, one contract, one point of contact. Architect, structural engineer, project manager, installers - all coordinated by us. You’re not managing relationships between four different firms. This is the difference between a project that runs and one that doesn’t.

Monthly update on our watermill project and honestly, it's starting to look like something. 🙌
Our future home and ECSUS/SIP France office, deep in the French Alps forest. We're building it the same way we build for every client. SIP panels, integrated solar roofing, timber cladding, the lot.

Most people planning a build in France have never heard of a Maître d'Oeuvre.

→ Coordinating and managing all trades on site
→ Budget tracking and cost control throughout
→ RE2020 compliance and sign-off

At ECSUS, our Maître d'Oeuvre is Steve Downs - a bilingual architect, French-registered and fully insured, with years of Alpine build experience. Our whole team speaks French and English and uses specialist software to keep you updated on every detail, from site progress to budget tracking.

Before the SIP panels arrive, there's a lot that has to go right first.
Groundworks. Foundations. Drainage. Rebar. Formwork. Concrete.
This is a current ECSUS project in the French Alps. Concrete base is done. SIPs are next.
More to come. 👀

ETA = European Technical Assessment. It means the panel has been independently assessed and certified to perform to a published, verifiable standard - covering structural load, thermal performance, and fire resistance. Not all SIP panels on the market are ETA certified. SIP France supplies ETA certified panels from SIP Europe. That certification matters to your structural engineer, your insurer, and your planning authority — it’s the difference between panels that are formally verified and ones that aren’t.

Most people treat shutters and blinds as a finishing touch. They’re not.
External automated shading is one of the most effective tools in a high-performance home and one of the first things cut when budgets get tight.

Here’s what they actually do:
→ Block solar gain in summer before heat enters through the glass
→ Add an insulating layer over your windows on cold winter nights
→ Reduce overheating risk - which RE2020 specifically measures
→ Improve comfort, lower energy demand, and add security at the touch of a button

At SIP France our shutters and blinds are integrated directly into the structure, no visible boxes, no external hardware. Built in high-grade aluminium, operated by Somfy motors, and built to handle everything from coastal exposure to Alpine conditions.

If you’re speccing windows and haven’t talked about shading yet - talk about shading.

Not every post is a finished chalet.
SIP panels are precision engineered off-site and cut to fit your exact design. When they arrive, the shell goes up in days. Months of planning, design and engineering go into that — so that when it matters, it moves fast.
What you’re seeing here is a build mid-flow. Already you can see the bones of something special.
More to come. 👀
