ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION — LOST.
For the Comédie de Genève in Ville de Genève Switzerland Tourism , with my fellow architect and very dear friend
Years later, I remain incredibly proud of this unbuilt project — a subtle tribute to the “Swiss Style” and to a broader Swiss modernist culture: Max Miedinger and Helvetica, Adrian Frutiger and Univers, Max Bill and Concrete Art, the Zurich School, the Neue Sachlichkeit, and the extraordinary Swiss tradition of graphic design and poster art. Frutiger’s typeface would later be chosen for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport..
Typography is the foundation of everything, and particularly of theatrical text, which, unlike oral traditions, exists first through the written word.
The skin of the building was conceived almost like a field of hatching: lines that overlap, combine and fragment the perspective. Together, they deconstruct the perception of the volume to create an architecture that seems to shift as you move around it, a building that conveys a sense of movement and dynamic tension.
